[WIP] Nadja - Game Character (Feedback Welcome)
Creating a character based off of this concept by Fabio Cacciola (link to his piece on ArtStation here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L94gK).
I decided to create this post partly to document what I've gotten done so far, but also to gather and action any feedback anyone has
I'm planning to create hair cards for the hair, eyebrows and eyelashes but have sculpted in some very rough temporary ones just to get an idea of shaping, flow and (in the case of the eyebrows) make it easier to see if things are looking ok. In terms of texturing and details - i.e. skin pores and the like - I want to try and do all of that in texture rather than baking detail down in order to try and keep it as adjustable as I can when I get this into UE.

Been wanting to join in on the challenge for a while now, decided to go for the hard surface environment. Currently building out the rough blockout to get an idea on the dimensions and the modular pieces I'll need. Also building up my ref board as I go. Luckily I found a victorian staircase (Kimmel Hall Staircase) that matches the concept a lot. Going to include elements from that staircase into my scene.

dont claim it to be wasted just call it contingecy (sp) for later revisions and additions
depends on the forms being use though tbh and as long as you can get the most texel density for the forms, with the space you end up using, I wouldn't call it a bad thing.

I am using bitmaps though? Pixel operations are still king when it comes to painting apps imo. Things like smudging or sharpening becomes impossible if you move to a particle based/vector system. Particle brushes that push down to pixels will definitely have their use-case though
OK!! progress.
I spent a ton of time getting my UI renderer fast, i got it down to one draw call per scissor, so now it's SUPER fast.
So the entire app is still hitting FPS while painting, using the new UI system.
So now i can start to actually build out the feature set now that the app framework is in a pretty good state. It feels unreal having 0 lag while painting. Obviously a lot of painting software already that good in this simple case, but there is so much performance headroom we'll be able to do some pretty impressive stuff.

i got it.
i used an eclipse, duplicating and scaling it to match the final shape, then i created a surface, then i customized only a part and using symmetry it just fit really nice together. love this section. very informative post. well done everyone.
