Hey Gaming World! I'm a senior VFX artist with 30 years of Hollywood experience. The VFX industry is not going well at all so I'm jumping into the gaming industry, hoping to make a demo for a game I have in mind. I will have to adapt my modeling and look dev to Unreal's restrictions (We don't really care about polycount in VFX) and it will be a hard journey for me to make the switch but I'm super motivated and I hope that this community will be there to help me, the same way the Blender community does. I just got done reading Paul Richard's write up on "Thumb War." I would recommend reading it if you have spare time over lunch or any free time during the day. It is a pretty in-depth overview of the whole concept process. Guaranteed valuable insight from a seasoned vet that will be well worth your time.

@Houuuuurr there are some issues with the proportions of the various elements of your crate. Go back to the ref image and compare the different elements to one another and you'll notice the issues I'm sure.

@BillyJackman you're on a good start, what jumps at me is that your round decoration elements near the top surface are really shy compared to the concept. I also feel that the main bottom part of your crate could be a bit taller and the main top part could be slightly shorter.

This week I finished the low-poly and baked it. Took some liberties with the back. I'll revisit the angles inside the top part as they are much rounder in the concept, it's just a shame I only noticed today.

Some noodly concepting over a block out.

The thought process here is maybe she's a deserter from the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
It'll allow me to work in Samus's iconic whip as a "magic weapon" from that region.

I forgot to say in the main post but the aim is to have the story take place before the events of TLG! Alchemy Stars is going to the main inspiration for that, especially it's vibrancy and how pristine a lot of the architecture looks.
