If an ngon causes no smoothing errors/shading artifacts on a flat surface plus also dependent upon properly implemented mesh generation technique, then a given shape and/or object should typically sub-divide or bake without a problem.Further relevant Info:

I fully agree with Kanni3d & Klunk, both on methods explained and how these are standards when it comes to manually unwrap your UVs. Like, it's normal to spend more time on things that can't be automated.
The RizomUV result is quite poor for two reasons :
- center edges are messed up (=will need later select>relax>straighten)
- external app means more clicks. Always a thing you want to reduce and a problem if you need to do that on several models or refine the model's topology for some reasons
On 3dsmax you can also rely on the Peel mode, this one allows you to view unfold in realtime depending on pinned vertices, it starts with two, but you can add more simply by selct+drag them around and see how it behaves best.
Another way to do that would be using the projection method, I did that to project UVs from a flat model onto a more detailed one :

z fighting will be seen when two parallel planes are very close together. you wont see it where less than parallel planes intersect. so you can have the ground intersect with buildings and you will not see zfighting there.
in general you'll be best off to not try and solve problems until you have directly encountered them yourself. if you hear about some problems indirectly and then try to prevent them before you actually understood them directly, you'll likely create more problems for yourself in the process of trying to work around something you don't actually understand.

Some criticism on my new passion model
I'm really tired of making this one beacuse I have absolutely no motivation to make this because it seriously serves zero purpose, I'd do comissions for free just to have some motivation on my back pocket but I can't seem to find anyone.
Also don't dunk me for having bad topo, this is the FIRST time I've done subd
I know the stock has horrible density and reductions in places there shouldn't be, I dunno why I did it like that.
You can kind of tell it's my first time doing subd by the bullets, I didn't you could just subd octagons to make quad circles, you know?
Other than that it's a 25mm sniper rifle, magazine holds 3 bullets each, bullets are almost twice the size of a 50 BMG
I'm aware that this is still half-complete (you can tell by the details and me using chalk style.) But I'm saying this again, passion projects are dread for me. Not for a friend or someone, just because I started it.

Early Weapon Development, the top being the original blockout, and the following two being the development that followed.
The design is a sword that extends into a partisan, featuring blades that extend outwards in a scissoring motion to form a pickaxe shape for armour penetration and climbing, and propellant (either a gun with lots of kickback or a rocket (most likely a rocket) ) for more powerful thrusting and mobility)
