You could definitely improve the texture resolution by not using an "atlas" layout, but instead using tiled textures, and mixing damage with vertex color. We have some info on this in the wiki. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/MultiTexture and if you check my Sketchbook, I share some shader graphs for making these kinds of…
Thanks for the compliment Erik, it means a lot. I think somewhere in between. I don't want things to look like they just came out of the box and I also don't want him to look like he just walked out of a battle or can't afford new things! In my mind the character is a well to do person, or at least keeps up appearances. I…
I'd suggest trying to find some patterns for the traditional clothing you're going for here. These clothes don't really look convincing. Though they cast a similar silhouette, the structure is weak. At least look up the correct names of the pieces so you can get good refs; there are lots and they're free and publicly…
Hi all! So I have been playing a bit with matte/camera projection techniques, basically having fun merging 2D and 3D together (and that's A LOT of fun) I can output uncompressed videos from 3DSMax just fine, I have all the passes that I need (diffuse, AO, specular...). I also know quite precisely what I want to achieve…
Small update / extra question: Thanks again for the suggestions. I looked at a few portal VFX tutorials, but most of them are more focused on Niagara particles or gameplay portals. +1 +1 Being able to make animals is great, pulling off fur and and that good jazz is pretty cool stuff, and your skull sculpt is fantastic, I love the surface detail on it! But i'm also not sure how far you could get into games trying to sell yourself as an animal artist. Have a few characters, it's not like you can't turn…

The upper part of the scar looks pretty good so far. I think it kind of falls apart where it gets wider and the edges get lighter and less well-defined. I guess it also depends a lot on what the purpose of the scar is, in story-telling terms. What is it meant to convey about the character's backstory? Are they a duelist…
