Hey guys! I am trying to make some scars on my character, I would really appreciate some feedback and or advice to make them look realistic and convincing. what do you guys think of my attempt?
The upper part of the scar looks pretty good so far. I think it kind of falls apart where it gets wider and the edges get lighter and less well-defined.
I guess it also depends a lot on what the purpose of the scar is, in story-telling terms. What is it meant to convey about the character's backstory? Are they a duelist with knives, and this is meant to telegraph that they've been in a duel within the last couple years or so? This doesn't look like a really old nor really new scar.
It also doesn't really communicate how the scar occurred, because the width varies so much.
Besides sharing what the reasoning is, it would help to show your photo references.
First of all, thank you so much for your reply! Those are really great questions, I'm basing it off a 2D concept art provided by a client actually, so I don't know much about the characters backstory except that they've been in fights and they're in a post apocaliptic setting. As for reference photos, this is one of the pictures I have been provided with
I myself found this picture for closeup reference of the colors and scar texture
Again I seriously appreciate your feedback and help
