if you work alone everything is much easier in therms of Software tools you use. But as soon as you have to work in a studio pipeline its getting more complicated and you have to follow some rules. If the animation department is based on maya which it is most of the time you have to provide maya files. Early on dummies…
Good luck King of Ska, just remember quality over quantity! Better to reuse one generic awesome bottle 50 times than to have 10 really cruddy ones. Also i really liked this image from vig: Not many assets but still a very interesting image, heck it's even in black and white, you don't need crazy diffuse or specs for an…
I'm kind of close to the end I think, I'm fixing some bugs and running renders through MRQ now so I should really catch up on the posts. Clothing creation was really problematic and I think one of the things I spent the most time on. There's a lot I could talk about but I guess I will focus on 2 things I realized: 1.…
Let's start in reverse with #3. Atmosphere: this is completely in your control and it's up to you to decide. What atmosphere are you going for? Industrial? Something like Portal where it feels like a lab environment? You need a clear and cogent idea of what atmosphere you're targeting before you can decide on materials and…

Ged - Thanks for the tip about separating the coat and torso, it really helped for getting the normal maps for the deep recesses. woogity - Thanks. I ended up splitting the model into about a dozen different bakes in order to get a solid bake for everything. crazyfingers - Thanks for the insight. I ended up widening,…
looks cool! tho, it seems like you didnt take the time to put in the details on the bag. Little wrinkles n stuff like in the reference. Also, if you are taking your zbrush mesh, i think it owuld make more sense to decimated since you will be baking the stuff later on. no?
"it's going to get confused when it comes to edges where different elements meet up? " I don't know what the problem here is ? just shift-select-move-explode your mesh piece by piece for baking and Voila! Its kinda what everyone would do in this case. Edge problem solved.
