Yess! My man! I’m an environment artist with a background in organics. There are not many problems left that I would not myself try to script around, but the biggest choke point for me has been retopologizing and adding UV seams to lowpoly organic models. I'll use these rocks as an example: When I do a highpoly to lowpoly…
Hello! Newbie at 3D art here. I'm also new to these forums, so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section. Let me start off by summarizing my issue. Basically, what I've been trying to do is bake down smooth edges from a high poly model, onto a low poly model without Face Weighted Normals. The low poly mesh has…
So I have a cube and I have used the crease edge tool on it. I have now deleted the history but the creased edges still show the thick lines. I know there's a way to delete this creasing data but I can't remember for the life of me how to do it?
Hey, Currently plowing through a tutorial and for some reason edges stay selected even when I've got nothing selected in the scene. The edges seems to stay a light brown colour. Is this just weird display issue in Maya or does it mean something more? Cheers, Scott
hey, long time lurker on this forum and wanted to ask a question about hard surface topology. I'm taking an online course and it was going pretty well until I reached this part of a GameCube controller. from my understanding, I thought it was a bad practice to have a lot of poles... and I also understand this is a flat…
Here's a workaround, maybe not usable for what you want. But you probably know that F8 goes to object mode, F9 to vertex mode, F10 to edge mode and F11 to face mode. Combine this with the CTRL button and you get a convert action. So you can convert a face selection to a vertex selection for instance. You can also go from…
For a mesh like this, where all the shapes are generally soft and there is enough geometry to represent the harsher angles, there isn't much benefit to setting uv borders as hard edged. There may be some drawbacks to doing it, especially if you need to make LODs. Generally with organic shapes, you'll get more issues with…
Is it possible to make border edges a different colour. I know that you can make them thicker than regular edges, but I'd like them to be a different colour.
Hello everyone. I'm having trouble baking normal maps. This time it's simply in one specific application. Whenever I get black edges I snap my fingers and say "ah, I bet I forgot to split the UV's." However there was no snapping to be had and the edges were still as black as ever. I go down my usual checklist compiled from…
I have modeled in 3ds max for 10 years and went to Maya 4 years ago and have not minded it except for when I bridge edges. When I do this it produces double edges. This really isnt an issue for a rendermesh but if you are creating a bake mesh for enlighten or baking normals then it becomes a real problem. Is there a…
