This is my first script. :) You can select every N-th edge in Loop or Ring or both. Select edges, that you desire to skip with spinner, and use the buttons. Script work slow when you use "Full Loop" and "Full Ring" button with spinner value different then 0 and hihg number of edges in your mesh. Work only with Editable…
I have 2 models in max that i am working on,when i select one the inside edges of a quad disappear leaving just the outline of the quad which is what i want, but the unselected model displays all edges when i only want to see the outside edges not the line that shows the quad is made up of 2 triangles.Am i making any sense?
How important is edge flow when retopologizing props like chairs, couches, regular non-organic items? I know edge flow is necessary for retopolgizing characters, but not sure about other things. I always focus on silhouette, but have noticed that some of my props dont really have edge flows for the smaller details like…
Hey all. Got a bit of a technical question for you... when it comes to modeling world geometry, are "floating edges" a bad thing? IE edges that aren't connected back down into nearby verts like the two in this image: I can understand on a mesh that's going to be deforming a lot like a character this would cause weird…
Hey fellas, I was wondering about edge padding distance in Xnormal. If I am doing a 2k map, I heard it is recommended to keep the number at about 16. The issue is UV islands bleed onto each other pretty bad even at the distance of 8 and the normal map looks messy when using that number. Most normal maps I've seen here on…
The problem is your mesh topology. All those close edges "weight" the shading toward those edges, giving it that weird look. It's best to avoid edges like that, except around an edge that's meant to be hard.
I usually prepare my model in advance for the hard edges. In max, before exporting to Zbrush, I'd make a really tight bevel on all the edges that I wanted to keep ultra sharp, like belts. Another thing I've done in the past (it's quicker but potentially messier) is to grab groups of faces and extrude them or inset them a…
Hi all, I'm a newb at 3ds Max, having mostly worked in Blender and Maya before. In Maya, I know one can create multiple evenly spaced edge loops by using the Insert Edge Loop tool and setting the number of loops using the channel box. Is there something similar in 3ds Max? So far I've only seen that it is possible to place…
A few things that come to my mind when looking at your bake and the asset in general: Your polydestribution is abit of in some areas. The cylinders at the top have the same amount of edges like the base cylinder, although the bottom one is much larger and closer to the player. So you could reduce the caps of the upper…
Hi all, So I'm working on some pipes and I wasn't too sure if my rounded corners have too many edges or not. Currently I have 2 edges in the rounded corner and if I look at the model without shaded edges on you can sort of see a little faceting going on in the mesh, but will that go away once I model a high poly and apply…
