What's up Polycount? I've been working on this Starcraft inspired environment based on a concept by Mr Jack. My goal was to create as much movement through the use of materials as possible, I was tired of building static environments and wanted to try some new techniques. I've been staring at this so long I'd love some…
Hey friends! This is a collection of some of my work from the last 2.5 years on Second Son. I chose shots where I was the primary texture/finishing environment artist. We are loosely divided into model and texture artist roles, but because we're a fairly small team with zero environment outsourcing, these roles become more…
I'm wondering how standardized the division of labor is when it comes to "Environment Art" and "Level Design" across the industry. If you have, or are currently, working at a studio: How were these roles divided up? What are the expectations of a level designer and what are the expectations of an environment artist? How do…
I really want to get a job in the gaming industry as a 3D Environment Artist and then work my way up and transition to a game designer or level designer. I'm going to apply for as many 3D Environment Artist jobs once I'm done finishing up my portfolio this week and hope for the best.
Weren't you a tester at Blackbox? If your going for environments, I would scrap the character all together. Unless you plan on doing far more work on it, I think it will bring your environment down. What you have now for the character just isn't all that strong of a model. It might confuse potential employers. Especially…
That's a title and a half and I think this is my first personal work-in-progress thread here, hello there! This was supposed to become my entry for the Allegorithmic Road Trip contest, but I ran out of time (and skill) so I turned it into a learning project. My goals for this are: * design of a fictional vehicle (this I…
I really enjoy this thread so far, Ive been waiting for one as detailed as this to come up. I only say that because I'm aspiring to become an environment artist and these detailed suggestions and step by step posting is helping me read in pretty well. Only thing I have to say is that everything here seems photo sourced. I…
Hi, I started this little project yesterday so it's still in it's early stages. I wanted to make something that would give me some practice with both modular and environment art. So I am basing my scene off of something Kirill Sibiriakov made. I essentially wanted to go for a similar style with the stairs section and then…
Greetings! There's something magical about the dreary and haunting animated images that artist Leland Foster creates. I want to capture some of that essence and use it as a backdrop for a narrative. The idea of this environment is a crime in progress at a motel at night time and after it has rained to give the scene some…
