Max - Padding Translation
Hey to all the men and women of the great nation of PC, Quick question, does anyone know the 'true' value of the padding number in Max? Example, I need 8 pixels or 16 between ma' UV's, but I'm unable to understand what the value 0.1 (or in my case, for some odd reason 0.01) means in terms of pixel translations. So any… -

Grid, unit, snap settings for 3ds max to Unreal?
Howdy folks. I need to know the grid, unit, snap settings that I should use in max so things will align properly in Unreal2k4 when I export them. thanks. EDIT: seems I've found the grid settings. Grid spacing = 16, Major lines every Nth Grid line = 8. Now I need the unit measurements. -

My recommendation for all artists crafting a modern portfolio is to not be wasteful but remove all visual faceting. Bumping that 16 sided cylinder to a 32 to smooth out the silhouette, using a 2 or 3 segment bevel on larger forms, etc. Triangle/Vert count is now incredibly low on the totem pole of things to worry about… -

The above two images show the original low poly geo before I started going back and cutting stuff out. Since then, I've cut 16 more tris without changing the shape of any of my UV islands/clusters. In the future, I'll seriously consider your advice, m1neh and sculpt individual bricks in Zbrush. pf -

Everywhere that you create a UV island (a.k.a. a seam) you should create a hard edge by selecting the polygons on the other side of the seam and setting them to a new smoothing group in the Edit Poly modifier. Yeah, the updates this time isn't that interesting for me, just like getting bugs fixed. Also, I'm still on the March version, so I probably missed some cool things, downloaded the new version last night (OWWWww my 16 gb bandwidth limit :P ), will have a look at it when I get home from work. -

took me 4 years to break in (studio gig), 2 in school and 2 working on portfolio. The last 2 years I was working on average 12-16 hours 7 days a week. Actually, it put me in the hospital for a while, lol. Just work every chance you get, if you want it bad enough its not that hard really.
