I don't think it is. Left one in Maya should have 4 vertex normals whilst the right one has 6 vertex normals. Maybe some shader magic could offer you a solution? Not sure where you would start on that shader though. You'd have to identify where that triangle split is. Maybe it has to do which the fact that a quad in Maya…
Hello! For some reason Maya's UV editor isn't letting me scale in the Y-axis. Every time I try to use it it just scale in the x. I've checked my tool settings and my constraints are off and no video or search has been able to help me so far. Is there anything I should try to help me resolve this?
How do you bake Ambient Occlusion to vertex colors in Maya nowadays? Mental Ray is no longer supported, developed or even shipped with Maya. Arnold lacks this functionality, and TURTLE is yet another thing in the long list of stuff that Autodesk acquired (to increase stock value) but then just abandoned. xNormal has this…
gah I say! Curse Maya and it's works...well, maybe not exactly but it's a bummer when Maya is the package that roled with my PC purchase and I can't afford max or XSI :( That said, setting the move tool to "average normals" seems to present the option to slide around whilst broadly keeping the surface intact. But I do say…
Hi polycounters :) iam doing a skate bowl for a level. Using the loft tool in maya is easy and straightforward for skining, but when i place the curves to make the angles match, its hard to make accurate angles when constructing. is there maybe a helpful tool in maya like the ones in illustrator? like showing the degrees,…
Hi there polycount experts, i'm a student in animation and i'm actually really not advanced in animation and 3D render with Maya. For our upcoming shortfilm we would like to make some papercraft render EXAMPLE : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q83hSu-2wmg I searched all over google without finding exactly how to do it ,…
Yeah its pretty messed up that maya still doesn't have proper ao baking with transfer maps. When I looked into this I was told that the workflow is to uv your high, bake the ao from the high onto its uvs, and then transfer it along with your normal map as a diffuse map with transfer maps.... Yeah, like that is something I…
Learn both or at least one and accept you might have to learn another package for a new job. That said if I had to pick one? I'd pick Maya. I'm not a maya fan and come from a long 3dsmax background mixed with Softimage. However friends at several of the bigger companies have all told me Autodesk are, essentially, asking…
The My Documents maya folder is not "untidy", it's set up so that multiple users can all have different settings. The oldschool way of having everything in one folder means settings don't get saved per user. The main program should by in Program Files/Autodesk/Maya<version> Maybe in Program Files (x86) if you've installed…
Hey Folks, i need a specific Maya Plug-in, maybe someone knows if there is something like that the plug-in i need will be used for making seams on seats ( the stitching) it needs to make an array of a geometry i can select and bend this along a spline. its important that i can use any geometry i want. also i need to be…
