They probably don't have a floating area for the road, I'd imagine they just cut the geometry Into the ground. You're probably right about the blend strip though. Alternatively You could do all this with a vertex colour or texture based mask and some Shader work

I just bought Quixel Suite and when I open up Ndo2 from photoshop, the dialogue appears for adjusting the normal map but there is no 3D viewer. Iv'e used NDO in the past and it usually automatically opens up a dialogue window and a viewer but I'm not seeing any viewer. How do I enable it? Thanks
