There are a few edges in the handle I might re-route so the quads look more standard and have less of a chance of doing something funny with the cage. It looks like you're ready to start baking, you can do that in 3dsmax with Render To Texture (RTT) or xNormal, both have their advantages and disadvantages and both have a…
Right so I've been baking AO maps for my scene right? I've done a couple different methods just to mess around to see what works best for me at the moment. So far so good right? Mostly. There are a couple objects that cannot be baked for some reason. When I try using Mental Ray to bake an Ambient Occlusion MR map, the…
Hi everyone, We’re looking for freelance 3D artists experienced in creating realistic 3D models. Max Payne being one of my favourite games, it's making it hard for me to like what I've seen in the trailer. I'll most likely line-up and catch it in theatres, but I'm not entirely convinced about the cast for the 2 lead roles. Mark Wahlberg has that baby voice that even sounds calm and soothing even when he's mad, and his…
Hi everyone, I am reading Polycount since a long while, but it’s my very first thread. :) I am struggling to have the lightmaps working properly in the 3DS Max viewport of a low poly environment I am working on. Every object of the scene has a Diffuse texture (UV set Channel 1) and a Lightmap texture (UV set Channel 2).…
well no, we got the OSL shaders. you can make what you want and i think it comes with 100 examples maps. if you like substance then there is a substance map plugin actively being developed by allegorithmic so you can load substances quickly in max.
One thing that I have noticed, normal maps from max tend to be a bit more noise in the gradients while normal maps from maya tend to have a "stepping" type artifact. The difference between the two shouldn't be noticable in any normal situation though. Hard to tell exactly what your issue is here, you can always try to…
Perhaps a bit of a dumb query but I'll ask anyway... :poly142: I have some UV sheets in 3D Max, one of which contains various objects like window frames/glass/plastic objects etc. I want to texture these in Photoshop and so I've exported them at a resolution of 2048x2048. I may just be needlessly confusing myself but I…
Hey guys. I'm trying to figure out why 3ds max 2015 (not sure about other versions) gives me this weird thing when I try to copy UVs from one mesh to another. The second mesh is an exact copy. Either by "save-load" or by copying modifier, it's all the same. It makes the mesh look like this: UVs are in the needed place, but…
