Yup! This is a good set of goals to aim for :D Interesting perspective. I think we are seeing a change though where film/ vr/ video games are having a much deeper impact on culture across the globe. Think Mario or Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Or Even Last of Us etc... It makes sense considering the size of the games… -

A real simplified step by step: 1. Find some orthographic images of a character to model 2. import them as image planes in maya 3. Add primitives that approximate the main volumes of the character (torso, head, limbs weapons etc) and set an appropriate amount of starting divisions and position them to match the image… -

Drawing from life, studying anatomy, see if you can take a few life drawing courses eventually, etc. Drawing from photos usually isn't recommended if you're just focusing on practicing your actual drawing skills (photos tend to flatten out perspective, it's already composed etc.) Of course there is nothing wrong at all… -

i'll buy a new system this week too. i checked that link justin , looks nice but cant agree with some parts. -8800 gts is kinda overkill. actually it's a really bad time to buy a new vga , dx9 cards will be useless in a few months , dx10 cards are too expensive (8800 series) or has bad performance compared to last years… -

@OliverJSR I know it's simple, but I suggest returning to "Form Follows Function" both on the high level, and in the specifics, especially for mech work. So you're right about the graphic read of breaking up detail with large masses and smaller detailed passages. However, I would suggest you focus on getting the design… -
