What does MJ Poly Tools "edge loop split" do? There's "Insert Edge Loop" and "Offset Edge Loop" which sound similar, but I don't know what the functionality of "edge loop split" is, so it's hard to say. What version of Maya are you using right now? Insert Edge Loop has been in since before Maya 2008, afaik.
Happy New Year! To start off the year why don't we do a looping fight similar to Stephen Vyas' looping animations Eg. http://gfycat.com/EverlastingLinearAtlanticsharpnosepuffer Maybe spend a couple of weeks on this? Or suggest another idea that we could do?
Swiftloop lets you edit ANY pre-created loop. Hold Ctrl+Click while in Swift Loop to select a loop. Then hold Alt+Click while in Swift Loop to move that edge along a constraint or Ctrl+Shift+Click to remove the edge and all verts. No undoing necessary.
Like Pior said - take the time to read that thread. It's huge, yes, but it's invaluable. Although keeping quads is very important, there are times were Ngons are perfectly fine. The main problem you have in that example scizz, is that your edge loops are incomplete. You were doing just fine, but it looks like you stopped…
I'd re-route geometry, either welding vertices or deleting edges in order to preserve your existing topology by utilizing the wheel arch control loop due to the intersecting curved surfaces and high subd level guide mesh.
