Hello! I need to help with this: Base Mesh made in 3Ds Max Whenever I add on one side it subtracts from the other and visa versa :( what am I doing wrong? Thanks :D -Matt
I didn't read the whole thread, so maybe this has been mentioned, but dynamesh is the most convenient way to do this - for me anyways, perhaps I'm being lazy. Delete all lower subdivs and use an IMM brush to subtract out a hole in the base of the mesh, where you want the hollowness to begin. Make sure that in the dynamesh…
New question: Can you have an alpha that adds and subtracts at the same time without having the edges of the alpha show up? I tried with a 50% grey as my base, but it didn't work.
Thanks guys. Seantree, Its a little of both really. I usually block in the basic shape and then go backwards and forwards adding and subtracting clay until I get something that looks nice.
Yeh for 3a you can do select face centers like claydough says, or what I do is marquee select all of them and subtract select (Hold Control) the other faces.
Oh this looks like a great tool @Malkalypse ! Thanks for sharing. I have one quick question, is there a way to add to the mesh, or is it only subtraction based? Looks very handy either way!
Since you've already brought this up... I may add that you can add / subtract the number of divisions by pressing the Page Up / Page Down keys while in preview mode (3).
I have the lower button set to "Alt" so I can quick color pick in photoshop and use the subtract tool in ZBrush as well as camera navigation. The Upper hotkey is set for right click.
Thanks for your help. I figured out finally that the reason nothing was showing was that the setting the guy is using is a subtract level. I wasn't given the option so I wasn't actually adding anything.
Yeah, just use the first image you posted as a reference, and subtract your maps from it. They don't all have to be in one 4k atlas. It can be sixteen separate 1k maps. Doesn't matter.
