Hi there, During the summer (and beyond) I decided to create a piece of environment art for my portfolio and since I want to get better at hand painting textures and love that style I decided to give it a go. I started out with a cave but then wanted to give it more of a function and settled with it being an underground…

I need a base model sculpted and then positioned in 16 different poses. Also minor model variations are required. The model is an oriental rat character: I currently have a freelance 3d artist working on my goblinoid figures and I am looking for a second person due to the amount of work involved, here is an example of what…
My recommendation is to step back and do some grayscale paintings of smaller scale. Instead of doing a super bloodthirsty hell beast with wicked awesome armor, do a grayscale portrait. It will help you learn to use your values to portray your shapes. Working in grayscale will also help to not have so much distracting you,…
Thanks! I want to do an entire scene like this but I'm still experimenting with a way to make this more feasible. Printing out UV shells and painting them with gouache is very time consuming, and expensive... That's why I'm pretty sure now the Gearbox artist said the line work is physical and the paint is digital. I think…
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it. @Peyd3d =) You’re absolutely right about the shading issues. I’ve gone over the meshes several times and addressed a number of those areas already. Some of the round and beveled assets were causing issues, so I’ve increased the geometry there to improve the…
Hi, everyone! I had created a polygon primitive plane, then mirrored it in the X -axis. Then I made it paintable. Then I selected a brush and painted on it. But I can not paint on the original side of the mirrored plane, the brush painted on the roginal plane was be returned back to the other half of the plane…
I recommend bringing a printed portfolio as well. Printing an 8x10 at 300 DPI would mean you should render at 3000x2400 for a crisp print. Textures are blurry but that's expected, game art is painted for displays not print. For color, I guess you're at the mercy of the print shop for how well they calibrate their printers.…
Thanks pior. The lighting is definitely off, thanks for pointing it out. I think my problem is that I have a hard time controlling colour and value simultaneously And if I paint my values first its super hard to get colour in there. I believe the answer is probably more study and thumbnailing because the current way im…
So i'm making a hospital now in maya and i'm coming up to the point where i want to start texturing a lot of it. But since i'm new and teaching myself i'm not sure about how to go about texturing this scene because i know a few ways to go about it, and i didn't know if it would be easier to just have 1 big plane as the…
