Hi! Nice model, but the materials could definitely use improvement like you said. First thing I would do though, is add some more dynamic lighting / environment. Right now it's too flat, and with these flat viewing angles as well it's quite hard to tell what the material is doing and therefore do any meaningful work to it.… -

Open them in UE5, mess with lighting a little, take screenshots? What ever your issues are with the look going on there, it's probably not the fault or limitation of the UE renderer. Originially the lighting in the scene are imo kinda flat because of some unrealistic fill lights that'll blow out some areas. So literally… -

TV manufactures seemed to think light leaking out the back of your TV was a cool feature, but this is actually projecting things on the walls and surface not just colors. the snow effect in the cartoon-ish racing game, simple yet pretty cool, the same could be done with rain or… -

Looks okay, but there's more to accomplish. I'm reading the castle towers as sand castles given their noisy texture, but I have a feeling you were aiming to make them stone. Which in many cases, structures like those use brick to make up their surfaces. I think you should have spent time actually making the brick texture… -
Black Areas in Lightmap
Hi folks, pretty new Unreal user. I am trying to build the lighting in my scene, but when I do, get ugly black areas around some of my UV seams. Not sure why; no errors pop up when building the lighting, the second UV channel seems good with no overlapping areas and plenty of margin space. Any other ideas why this might… -

My guess is that models will improve with time but to show them in their best possible light you either have to calibrate your monitor or learn few basic lighting set ups like -> 3 point lighting Rembrandt lighting or HDR as lighting Reason been right now your models are either overblown in some ambient haze or relative… -

You are right, I kind of lost direction after doing the lighting. Again it was my attempt to go back to art basics after years of doing tech art mostly with shader and real time optimisations. Next time I will do better. -

@JonathanF @SasoChicken: You guys are right :) I'll see what I can do! @divi: Yeah I exaggerated the bevels so I could have more depth in my normal maps. My previous tests with this kind of sci-fi stuff on UDK turned up kinda bad because lightmass tends to make normal maps look flat... it's either that or you crank up…
