Did you set the correct UV set for the lightmap (Light Map Coordinate Index)? It's hard to see everything that's going on, a screenshot in lighting only mode (Alt+6) might help.
@TashaLouiseArt I used three point lighting, The main light from the top left, a fill light from the right and a very bright rim light at the back. Its just a point light cranked up all the way. If you see the backside it's super lit. But i only used it for that shot ofcourse.

You might be able to push the contrast a bit with the feathers. More dark darks and light lights. Kind of like how you have it for Aku Aku's "grass goatee".
