Hey everyone, I'm probably posting in the wrong place, but I couldn't quite determine a better choice. I did run a few searches but couldn't get the answer... I'm a hobby modeler and use Blender. I'd like to be able to present work for critique here, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. When looking for critique, what is…
Found a thread the other day regarding UDIM support for blender. Theory Studio have their own build of Blender for the animation work. It turns out that they implemented UDIM support, read more here: https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?440326-Theory-Studio-s-custom-Blender-builds
So I had a go at making the DOTA 2 Hero shader in Blender a few years ago, turns out it was pretty crap. Just for fun I tried again. This one shares input parameters with Valve's Workshop Tools, and is a much more faithful reproduction. Shadows are still missing, I've not decided how best to tackle those in Blender yet.…

My guess your issue is with 2d patterns like procedural brick texture because 3d noises look same from any view directions. For 2d patterns a common way is to use so called tri-planar projection. Blender doesn't have it by default but it's either possible to find on blenderartist.org or do it on your own: You make 3…
Hi guys, I'm trying to learn blender so I thought I would use this topic for any generic small question I have about it. In 3ds max you have this transform gizmo above for moving operations, so say I wanted to extrude constraining the movement to the x/z axis, then I would drag on the plane where those lines meet (where…
The consensus on that seems to be that Max is better for game art and Maya is better for film and animation, then I'm hearing very conflicting replies about blender "sucking" then being "better than both" Quick background: Video Editor / Motion GFX artist with AE have modeled and textured models in Wings3D and Metasequoia…
I've been trying 2.8 release and finding really pleasant compared to previous releases. So I wanted to ask if anybody bakes normal maps right in Blender using round edge shader, decal machine and all that stuff. I remember reading a few years ago that baking in Blender is wonky and not recommended in general.
Blender is capable of doing this but I have personally never tried it. Your best bet is to go on Blenders main site and ask their forum goers for help if you need it. Or you could try figuring it out via this tutorial on Blenders fluid system, which happens to show a fluid in a teacup.…
Hi, sorry for my noob problems (probably this one won't be the first I put on this forum), but I really want to know the best solutions since the beginning as a developing 3d artist. I tried to bake normal map of my well in Blender (ray distance 0.5, merge 5). It looks like this: The thing is that it looks deformed, mostly…
