the gigatexel engine is managing the loading of texture LODs... if turned on mud is creating smaller textures down to 256 i think and will stream those textures if needed... i turn this off if i work on objects with less than 10 uv tiles and do the loading by hand... use the up arrow key to unload textures from the gpu…

That's already been clarified several times, actually. when someone says you get say, a 512, that means it's a 512 per pass. So a 512 for diffuse/alpha, 512 for spec, 512 for emissive (and so on). :D
The project im currently on is running high in the polycount numbers and with edge faces on the frame rate drops dramatically...
