Hey guys,
didn't find something in the internet..
Iam not a Max user, but from time to time - i feel
that Max might be the better tool for Modeling, there much more
Tutorials about modeling in Max and Plugin/UV seems to be better..
Anyway.. didn't want to discuss the max vs Maya thing again

I heard about a Max function called "select similar" .. you can select similar faces on one object.. Seems to be very usefull.. dindt find something like this on maya..
Also i use 3dcoat / RoadKill in Maya, are there nice Plugins out for Maya too ?

This might not be a component thing, but check this script out: http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/polygon/c/he_selectsimilar
It selects the similar objects around the scene.
Although you dont have select similar components in Maya you have a BUNCH of ways of selecting things through the menu of Select Constraints. Take a look at it, read the docs for it. I do sometimes use the "area" constraint which it can be quite useful. And there's lots of more options in there for you to check.
Max and Maya are different, that's all. You sure can try doing about the same in each of them.
but not exactly what iam looking for !
hmm no, i just tried to recreate this Plane. (thanks to scotthomer )
I only know grow selection and so on.. but is there a quick way to select all faces in between - like the image said ?
With edges you can do that for sure in maya, but not sure about faces.
When i use grow selection, it selects also the grid-faces..
Sure i can click and maybe i get the faces in 5 minutes, but i dont thing
thats the right workflow..
sorry i dont get what you mean with "the area " .,. hope you dont
mean shift+select .. Can you explan a little more, how you would
would select the "inner" faces in the grid.. not the grid itself.
try this script
I think it's what you are after
EDIT: fixed link in case, thanks for pointing that out
Fixed
I just dont know, why autodesk doesnt integrate this usefull tool
into Maya.. why only Max has it ? ..
Maybe i start a Usefull Scripts for Maya thread..
There tons for Max, but i couldnt find any for Maya
Thaaanks ! Also the owner of this script has made this :
UV Script
You can still use the script TeZzy sent, but to explain what you are asking if you go to the Select -> Select Using Constraints, there's an "area" tab, play around with that.
Yeah the area section, is not a oneclick solution like the
Plugin, but its nice too .. Thanks
