Morning Polycounters, I feel like i understand modular moddeling. The understand how to create the diffuse texture before moddeling then using extrude from th texture map to quickly build pieces. HOWEVER I dont understand how to create assets like roofs. Building doors, window frames are easy because they are…
Not wordy at all. Thanks for the write up :) I'm not entirely convinced that this isn't doable. I get why they would taper their floor peices, but not being able to put 2 flat peices together without hiding the shadow seam with another mesh makes me sad - By all intents and purposes, it really should be possible with a…
I'm working on a Western town using Modular buildings. This is my first time putting together a whole scene and also my first time doing Modular buildings so I'll no doubt fall into some pitfalls along the way.
The important thing to remember about working in an engine is that you need to try and get assets into the engine as soon as possible. This doesn't mean waiting until the asset is finished. I usually try and do it once I get the basic shapes down. I'll import the asset into the engine and see if my forms/shapes are working…
Your project looks amazing, and I'm also just starting a personal project on a village similar to yours. Could you share the Texel Density you've set for this project, especially for modular elements like walls and roofs? For my project, I've applied a Texel Density of 10.24 px/cm, with textures at 1024 resolution. This…
I just recently watched the 3D Motive modular building tutorialand it seems to make a lot of sense. But to me it also seems to be very limited. The whole part of taking a plane in 3ds max and modeling everything from the plane seems to me to be limited to very basic shapes. For example, I want to make a building that has…
@ cyberflame: Heres some stuff on how I made the buildings: Hope this helps! - So the smaller pieces are built in Max with specific measurement settings - in this case I used meters and just made sure everything I built corresponded to those settings. All the window pieces are 2 meters in width and i think 3 in height -…
Hey guys, I've been struggling with getting some principles of modular design into my head, and was wondering if someone could explain something to me. Modular texturing/materials is obvious enough when working with flat planes, as in the Thiago Klafke tutorial - allocate texture space to a plane in a logical/practical…
I agree with Cholden, maybe you can just take a brick tiles from CGtextures or some website like that and work with it thinking of the "atmosphere" you want to give to the building. You can also think about decals (dirt, graffiti,...) for the bricks, it's a cool way to avoid the tiling. I got an example of modular building…
Hello there! I'm working on this piece right here and I really apreciate some tips and critiques! It's my first piece in Unreal and the first modular and external too. The pic represent my attemp into the lighting and composition, later I'll build one more modular kit for buildings and refine stuff.
