Hello everyone I'm still relatively new to substance painter. Is it worth it to texture props entirely in substance? What are the benefits of doing this? VS Blocking out the base color in Maya, export in substance and go from there: add edge wear, details, stains and of course roughness and metallic maps.
I have not used Substance in awhile and I noticed you can automatically export each time a change is made. Is this good for the health of a solid state drives that degrade the more you write to it? Especially for high resolution textures. I can understand the benefits of automatically exporting but shouldn't there be a…
Hey there, I've decided to create my own thread to gather and share substance stuff I've made/will make. I work at allegorithmic for quite a long time and have accumulated quite a lot of things, some of them ended up being in the Substance Designer library but some others are too specific / slow to be officially…
Greetings, I am using Substance painter to texture my models, well at least trying to do that. Recently I found out that using substance designer and publishing those files, I can tweak materials ingame. Altough I got all the files in UDK and it seems to work fine, I have nothing to tweak whilst substance is opened in UDK.…
Wasnt sure where to put this topic so i just put it in general? Im confused with substance designer and its place in my workflow, its quite a beginner question i would guess but i cant find anything on the web to state where it should be used (probably because its obvious and im a div!) The way my workflow goes at the…
So I am just really thinking about the worth of substance designer right now for UE4. It seems to me a lot of the node based functionality in substance designer can be done in the UE4 material editor. So then what would be the point of the node based system in substance designer with UE4. Here is my breakdown of the…
Hello I have a question about substance painter and designer. What is the difference between substance painter/ designer and zbrush's poly paint? Is it lot better to texture my 3d models in substance painter /designer?
+1 for the YouTube channel of Allegorithmic. In fact, initially I learned Substance Painter by watching this free series. Regarding Gumroad, you can check out Tim Bergholz (for Substance Painter), Josh Lynch (for Substance Designer) and Karen Stanley (for Substance Designer).
Actually, none of those substances seem that hard to do. You just need to get comfortable with a parametric approach. Generally it's easier to get into it if you break down the different elements of the substance you're doing. The sand pebbles substance is also basically a sand material with pebbles placed on top. Two…
This is my latest substance made with Designer. I wanted it looking very cartoon. I Had a lot of fun creating this substance, a really good experiment and very instructive. It gave me the envy to continue to work some stylized substances. Artstation's post link : https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L2k4mk Any feedback would…
