ok i have seen people on low poly models using planes as hair, maybe i should show you some examples to help you better answer this, example 1. image plane as hair http://www.troyperry.com/images/aki_detail_front_wire.jpg now the finished model, http://www.troyperry.com/images/aki_full_front.jpg ok another example of a…
Unit : from what I have experienced it is actually a rather common practice, for greyboxing but also for final levels with Maya/Max/Modo being used as a full-on level editor - complete with model instancing, metadata saved to and exported from the Maya scene, and so on. An example from The Order : Of course I am not saying…
I didn't checked on any references.. but the detail/scale of the worn out metal seems to be more fitting to for example some smaller thing like maybe a painted toolbox (??) or of the metal case would be thicker and will be worn out very much like for example some forklift.. now i checked and.. .. it seems you got the…
I guess I were to make a counterproposal regarding a watermark or icon, it would be along the lines of "how much of that image did I actively create". It would not replace a proper written breakdown of contributions, just serve as a rough first indicator. It would cover a lot of cases, like collaborations, bought assets…
Over the past two years or so, I've seen an increasing proportion of Technical Artist roles that include something in the skills requirements about Python/Tooling. Can anyone give me some practical examples of what this is for? For example, a job might be advertised as "Unreal Technical Artist", but include "Maya" as a key…

Receiver is an interesting case -- a lot of what I did for that game is an example of non-art type stuff. Low detail props shamelessly ripped off from Ikea for example, or the guns just being common guns that people seem to like. I think that helps the robots stand out. I did do some simple concepting work on the robots.…
Some kind of nice workflow between Blender's Cycles renderer and DDO would be a god send. I know were going from PBR to raytraced complex materials and that is a major pain, but it would be amazing if there was a preset within DDO and a blender node setup that would simply involve us plugging in the textures and having the…
There's not just quads but n-gons too (imagine a 12-sided face, for example, it's 12 edges in a closed loop). The three.js loader is probably triangulating that model for you. In some formats the faces with more than 3 edges are described right there, like in the .OBJ format for example: f 767 773 748 750 768
f 749 751 750…
Arnold is a cpu based renderer, while Marmoset uses the gpu, just like Substance Painter. My advice would be to wait and save up a little bit more and get a used 1070 with 8 gb of memory at least. That 1060 is like a low end card for gamers, and really far from the best choice for artists. From what I see these days, even…
