What is your original reference? If you are lacking experience it might be a better idea to start with a good solid concept and some clear reference. Sometimes just following a concept from start to finish makes your life a whole lot easier since it solves a lot of the problems you are experiencing right now. -

Its totally ok to use others concept art as long as you give credit. If its a individuals say off Deviant Art etc always try and ask permission. If its not possible as long as you don't claim that you did the concept art it'll be fine. If you do use art from a company again just make sure you state that its fan art ;) .… -
