Yes agreed with the above, and don't forget Zremesher which will remesh (even) polys and such. Nobody expect to have straight lines, think more like clay.
Go for it! I always regretted not getting an arts degree myself. :( And you should definitely have a go at sculpting in clay, it's a very liberating and forgiving medium.
