Recently I've been revisiting the texture naming convention currently in use, and I'm at a bit of a crossroads. While this has barely any impact on the end user (modding/asset extraction aside), it has a huge impact on UX. Currently used naming scheme allows for quick identification while consisting of only three…
Mojo that is similar to what I was doing. I was using excel random number function to generate a page number then a line number and then I'd look it up in the Denver white pages and get a name. The generator works better and quicker than this and my fantasy fighting card-game requires 9 fighters per clan x 30 clans = 270…
Hey there guys! So I've been doing a couple projects lately that required me to take models that were either made with Max or Blender and animate them in Maya. Everything works fine in Maya, but I've come to realize that other modeling software allow for spaces and periods to be used in the naming of objects in the scene.…
Hey guys, I'm trying to give a name to each bend being created by a MEL script so it doesn't cause trouble with other bends in the scene. The script below basically takes a bandaid (the bandaid part and the two tabs on either side you pull off) and applies four bends to it so you can peel them away realistically. I've done…

I would definitely try to look into art asset production, at least for a prototype of your game. You should check out No Heroes by DrunkenLizardGames:…
So, I was having a little chat with JacqueChoi yesterday about video games, and how I'm playing less and less of them because they are just all the same. It seems like every new game is a Micheal Bay movie, and they just seem boring. There's nothing new. Nothing fresh. Yes, I'll admit, Beyond and Watch_Dogs looks…
Completed the 26 hours Course from Kaan Alpar "Unreal Engine 5 C++ Game Development" today, learned quite a few things :p I'll be advancing to the 50 hours "Unreal Engine 5 C++ The Ultimate Game Developer Course" from Stephen Ulibarri next, but I'm still available :) (although of course, part of my time will be dedicated…
Hey guys! First post on polycount! I Wanted to share this piece, I hope you like it! Introduction I love games like Dead Island or Requisition VR. For this portfolio piece I wanted to get inspired by the crafty, impossible yet believable weapon designs of these games. What better than C4 attached to something like a…
What are the best places to get textures for your game assets? Does anybody use textures images from photos anymore or is it mostly substance painter and photogrammetry these days? What about retro style ps1 graphics? I miss when texture.com was free and now requires a subscription to get textures.
