Hopefully someone can help me with an issue that's been bugging me for a while now. When using Mental Ray to render out my games models, I've noticed that normal maps which had displayed exactly as I wanted them in the Maya viewport will be different, often dramatically so - harshly warped and not as expected. I'm having…
Hi everyone! So my contribution for the competition is a take on a very classic sci-fi weapon. The ever so brilliant Freeze Ray! I realized that the Bizon's magazine could function as the cylindrical glass container of a freeze ray, rather than an actual magazine. This is what I've got so far I have only worked on the mag…
A lot of people uses Knald to generate Transmission maps for their models, but maybe they don't know that is possible to do the same in Maya and V-Ray. Here's my tutorial to show how to. :) [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUqv6ig2I0w"]Tutorial: How to create a Transmission map with Maya and V-Ray - YouTube[/ame]
hmm, you shadows look like you do use ray trace shadows, with only one shadow ray... so you are using shadowmapped lights? The filter size adjusts the softness. There is btw no reason to not bake ray trace shadows, they won't take much longer and the results are better...
Ok, Just found this link. Its mental ray standalone plugin for maya 2016, http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/mental-ray/downloads/caas/downloads/content/mental-ray-plugin-for-maya-2016.html Hope this helps anyone that has this problem :D
Yep, when it comes to RTT, mental ray is a giant pile of crap that is only good for AO. They've removed Mental Ray from newer releases and are switching to Arnold, personally I prefer VRay or if the company doesn't want to foot the bill for VRay, I'll use xNormal. But I stay the hell away from mental ray. Not only does it…
Is there a way to projection map using Mental Ray without getting errors? I want to bake Ambient Occlusion from my high-poly to my low-poly. The scanline renderer can do it but I'd like to use Mental Ray. The error seems to occurs where the high and low-poly objects are Z-fighting. Here's an example:
Hey everyone i always see these great renders, of final characters done in these competitions, and i have no idea how to get that. Even a simple 3 point light always comes out wring. I know alot of paint over goes into it aswell, but any tutorials or step by steps anyone may have would be great. I'm not very technical but…
For some reason this is not working for me? I can adjust the near clipping plane fine in the viewport but it won't show up in the render. As far as my research got this can work in Scanline. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this to work with Ray Tracing and Mental Ray in Maya 2013? Thanks.
Hi there up until now ive only really used mental ray for rendering and baking, and baking ambient occlusion has especially taken quite a long time (although results have been good). Somebody recently told me that I should try Turtle as its a lot quicker. Ive had a quick look but I cant seem to get ambient occlusion…
