For some reason this is not working for me?
I can adjust the near clipping plane fine in the viewport but it won't show up in the render.
As far as my research got this can work in Scanline.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get this to work with Ray Tracing and Mental Ray in Maya 2013?

If you want to clip into a model, you should model the cut. Ray-tracing would ignore a near clipping plane anyhow.
In 3ds Max I would do this with ProBooleans. Not sure what the analogue is in Maya though.
