Hi there, I am having problems with Quixel Suites materials which usually work great, but sometimes I get something like the Glass Window material. So far I found nothing remotely similar in postings online, so it might as well just be a problem on my computer / software. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? (This is…
I'm starting work on an environment with a surrounding cityscape and I'm debating how to approach it. I know I want to create most of it in "building blocks" (haaa!) but I'm wondering if it would be better to approach it with CSG or static meshes. If I do it with CSG, the scene will likely have more draw calls (because…
I've created a material for a computer monitor that has scrolling text in a couple of smaller windows. Easy to do. Right? When I add the main monitor texture to the scrolling pieces with the alpha masks, instead of showing off the color I want to appear, it shows the color that mixes with main monitor. It should layer on…
Okay, so I'm trying to set up my materials in UDK for this character I've been working on.. and I'm having a couple issues with it. First, I'm not sure how to make the metal armor on my character look more.. metallic. I have the specular set up.. I still need to create a quick gloss map... but is there any way to use a…
Sometimes I want to skip baking thickness map if it's not needed, but I am never quite sure if a material (or a smart material) use it or not. Is there a way to figure it out definitively in Substance Painter?

A post process material will be a fixed cost so you can budget for it easily even if it is expensive. The downside to doing this in post is that you won't be able to feed the noise back into materials for masking etc. - why is why I've opted to do it in a standard material for my own project.
I'm making a tree bark material that needs to be 2048x4096. So far, I cannot find a way to view this material in the 3D view without it stretching. Is there a way to set the 3D object, in this case the rounded cylinder, to have non square uvs?
Hey Daedalus51, I apologize for how long it took me to check this. I'll try to take some pictures of what I'm referencing tomorrow and play around with materials when I get a chance. Sinking, you sound kind of offended. Wasn't my intent; I'm honestly quite familiar with carbon fiber as a material. But now that we're having…
Hey Nick. There are sites where you can find a spreadsheet on material thickness. It is nothing that I personally would use, unless I am creating something that has to be in a specific size. A simple google search would be enough to get the required measurements. In your case, if the material isn't going to be transparent,…
