Anyway to get a smudge tool to work in a individual channel? Barring that workarounds. The only one I can think of is make a copy of channel as alpha smudge away. Select it and have the rgb channel you wanted again alone and fill with white. PITA and you cant see your results right away. Any other ways you guys do it?

What is 'straight' with the cut tool? Any cut between two points is straight. Do you mean aligned to an axis? Or cut across multiple edges? Look into the quickslice tool for cutting across more than one poly.
