The problem is that you´re smoothing your lowpoly. Your lowpoly UV´s do not compensate the smoothing so they get stretched on the seams. Thats a major problem when your UV editor dont has the ability to create UVs that are optimized for subd-objects. UVlayout for example has this ability, the uvs may look strechted if you…
Ahh.. I think I understand a bit better now. Now looking at it more and more after everyone's thought I totally understand that it needs more grunge. I think I just followed the photos too closely, cause those babies are cleaned every once in a while, but whats the fun in reproducing pure reality? Crazyfingers: Love the…
Erik about that one automated UV layout example - this is typically the kind of problem that seem just fine from a techart point of view, but in practice leads to sloppy results. Obviously for organics it can be worked with, especially along with a projection paint solution. However there is always a point when you need to…
I've been bouncing back and fourth on this and might be pulling the trigger soon (jobless bum atm). Here is the list I compiled last December based on what I use daily: Media Encoder - https://www.shutterencoder.com/ Acrobat Pro - https://www.pdfgear.com/pdfgear-for-windows/ Premire -…
Heyyyiee, I'm currently working on a personal 3D modeling project, which is a detailed F-15 Strike Eagle. And I’ve decided to dedicate this thread specifically to the cockpit and avionics section of the jet. I’m aiming for a high level of detail and accuracy, referencing real-world schematics and pilot footage wherever I…

You could always save out a UV layout for each finished piece and save over a main one you use in the UV editor. in other words: 1 unwrap a piece. Save the UV layout. 2 Use the UV layout under the next piece. Add the next piece's layout to same image. Repeat. In this way, you have a visual representation of the used space…
Decided to post some of the progress from the scene I'm working on. The goal here is to make my own environment of my own design, including all separate assets. I wanted to practice creating a coherent space where everything fits together. So far, designing all of this has been fun. I only borrowed 3 or so materials for…

Here are the retopo and the UV layout. I'm a little lost on how to properly distribute the pixel density for my UV's. I always try to space them as evenly as possible but the last time I asked for feedback on a human model people advised me to increase the UV size of the face. Do you think the rest of the body is fine or…
