When Maya crashes during a save operation and not only doesn't save, but breaks the save you were overwriting (and to top it off, was being lazy to increment saves for the past couple of hours of work). Good times.
Doing a Flatten then Save As works for me in 2014.2.2. There is an alpha channel in the saved file. I'm sure you know this but make sure Alpha Channels is checked in the Save As window, and you are saving as a 32-bit file.
Abstraction is something most dont recognize when they in it. Unreal has very little to no amount of abstraction in it, actually in how it works. But that is not to say it is void of abstraction. There is no magic nodes or super slick c++ to save a project for the code you build in it and that code will have abstractions.
