i think i found a fix for this soft normal thing. on the lowpolygon model **slightly** harden your normals, if your using maya go to normals>set normal angle and try to get a number where the hard edges are just starting to disappear. then generate your normal map. i had this issue with my last model and found this cleared…
I'd most certainly recommend 3DCoat's retopology tools.. I think worth the price alone. It still needs some streamlining but even as it is it's blindingly fast for experimenting with edge flow and moving things around the mesh. Main tools that I use are Points & Faces (similar to NEX Plugin for Maya) / strokes (splines) /…
Cool stuff, the last image is my favourite, it's a nice mix of techy and harder organic stuff. Good shapes and contrasts. Some stuff looks a little soft and blobby (like that ... rocky mace thing? image is called "digsite"), a little more deep sharp definition in the sculpt to separate some parts out would have helped…
Hey MaD. Yeah I get this a lot. She was not really meant to be soft & dainty. A lot of my references were super heroes. Kind of a challenge with trying to look tough but pretty at the same time. I've really only made dudes up till this point. I guess Hazardous or Anuximoon (sp?) I'm looking at you guys (er guy and gal) for…
thanks guys for the input. this is for a colleague. scanline is crashing for him for some unknown reason and mR is more stable but it doesnt anti-alias the resulting normal map. i did try xNormal on his scene but the results were too soft. i need to play with the settings some more and see how i can sharpen the details. do…
I think what gets me is the packaging, this cool guy has bandages, cloth, armour and horns and the way you attacked the hilights is lovely. Subtle lighting in the soft armour and horns and rough edges in the armour and he looks really pissed or he has cried foul over some injustice imposed on him by the Imperial Council. I…
I bought the WC3 CE for the art book. Imagine my disappointed when a few months later I saw the same book on store shelves for $20 in hard-cover as opposed to the soft-cover book the CE came with. If you just want the art book wait a few months and check the Blizzard Store instead of paying $80 for a game that you don't…
Hey folks. I am trying to create a substance which would take a simple tile grid and add dust spots and stains to it in a convincing manner. This is for a set of glass building facade textures, here are two quick references from the web just so you know exactly what I mean. My current way of doing it is by using flood fill…
Got the new model in engine and ended up stripping the color out again, lol. Can't seem to break away from the original grayscale aesthetic but I'll probably do some more color experimentation. I need to figure out how I'm going to handle character shadows soon, too. Since I intend to have a lot of enemies on screen I'm…
I've been trying to texture bake my uvs but it aint coming out properly. Tried usin Bobo's technique of vertex baking but i couldnt get it working. then i found this tut http://67.15.36.49/team/Tutorials/Lightmapping/lightmapping.asp I prefer the soft shadows anyways, i tried it out and it does seem to work to some degree.…
