I'm rendering a normal map using Render to Texture's default settings and when I render the exact same scene a 2nd time with no changes, the normal map looks inverted in the viewport. Its only in the viewport as the actual texture result is the same. Anyone know whats going on?
Did you try inverting the green channel? 3ds Max can't properly render normal maps unless they were baked directly inside 3ds Max. And IIRC it can't show them correctly in the viewport no matter what. They're working on a fix, but I don't think it's out yet.
It will create strings on every open area. You can cap those areas before pelting and then remove the polys when you're done, OR... What I do in max 2012 and higher:* Forget about pelt mapping with the stringer and stretcher. * Do a planar map. * Go into edge mode and turn on point to point seams and draw out your seams on…
thanks for the responses everyone, i know that i'll really have to try them out before i make a decision, but i'd rather atleast get a handle on the main differences. I think that i'm looking for primarily modeling and UV tools, which seemingly MAX has a better handle on. also, i have dabbled with zbrush and i know that…
Hello Everyone, Over the past three weeks I've started the adventure of learning 3D modelling using 3ds Max 2018. For my first asset I'll be taking from start to finish, I decided to make a simple metal barrel; with which I've had a huge amount of difficulty producing a clean normal map bake. I've tried a number of…
miauu's Layer Colorizer allows you to assign custom background and text colors to any layer in the Layer or Scene Explorer. You can also apply the same color to all child objects of a colorized layer for better visual organization. These colors are assigned independently of the actual Layer Color, giving you full visual…
I started with max and tried a few times Maya but dumped it each time because I disliked the GUI (to big random designed) and ugly workflow in regards of poly modeling, UV and lots of other stuff I have to deal with. Some Key advantages I see in max: Modifiers: One of the biggest lacks in any other package (well blender…
IMO a group behaves as an object in 3d max while collection is just an attribute, a tag of a sort . One object may be in many collections at the same time . To have collections behave same way as a group in 3dmax you can use join geometry node in Blender . Or just output collection in geometry nodes , it would became a…
Thanks, that file gives me basically the same results as the OBJ I had here. Using a Max bake and the Max TS gives noticeably better results. So I'll stick with my earlier statement, if you want the most accurate normal maps for Toolbag 2, a bake out of Max or Maya is really the way to go. This may vary for other engines…
Hey guys i'm new to using 3ds Max and after looking for ages and ages i cannot find a tutorial that properly has a trees bark texture wrapped the way i want it. So a tree is basically a bunch of cylinders right and you have the main trunk which then has a bunch of sub branches connecting off the trunk then your plane image…
