Hi, The reference gradients he makes? With mouse you could set opacity control to fade. Simple square brush should do the job. If you want the steps to the gradient. I would change the flow by hand if nothing else. Pretty hard with mouse. Opacity jitter can also give you steps but that won't look quite the same.
my only problem with it so far, and the only thing i can thnk of, is that there is a purpleish hue on the steps....to convey shadow.But if you look at the arches, they are fully illuminated by the torches, I think the purple outside of the stones looks great....and on the ground, but the steps feel detached from the scene.…
