i also have to model some rocks at the moment. it really depends on your specs. amount of polys, but more important, the shadertypes you can use. and even if you have good specs it doesn't mean they will look good. see the rocks in crysis, even if the rest of the game looks really good... (looks precedural...)… -

=D Yeah also the grip section has always seemed off to me, and it makes sense that it would have less spec there(you get soo much spec from all the various angles in the normal there, that it looks off). Dont worry guys, i fixed the wood grain via BLOOM. Also, playing with lighting a little more. Oh yeah, flats too -

98% done texturing the chair. I just have to tweak the metal bits and maybe work on the leather. The spec isnt showing through that well. Im using a directX shader with a reflection cubemap. but it only supports 1 light and it was my first time using a directX mat so the spec looks very weak. what do you guys think? i used… -

you know playing some of the games that have been released recently that feature normals + specs etc. etc. and thinking about how you didn't paint any spec for cloth/flesh, the more it seems like a prudent choice. some of the first games to feature normal maps do indeed suffer from virtually every surface reading as glossy… -

well yeah, but i wanna use a easy to work with engine, which do you suggest? im not as new to modeling as i am to game modeling haha... but overall which engine should I shoot for? i think the UT2k4 with a polycount of 5K, and if they use spec maps, then i'll go with that, since i wanna use a spec map for this reallllly… -

So, the roots now can be staggered through noise. It has a few bells and whistles like bias (stagger forward/backwards/both directions, which would place strands above/below/neutral in relation the pseudo-card) and should help mainly with parted hair. PBR texturing in Mudbox??
I've never used Mudbox before, I've tried the Substance Painter beta (which looks promising). Does Mudbox allow an artist to paint textures on a model in a similar fashion to Substance Painter? For example, if I'm painting metal onto an object, will it also provide me with the spec and gloss map at the same time? Like, if… -
