Your problem isn't that the modifier doesn't get renamed/updated, but that the UI doesn't update (test by running your script again, and then deselect and select your object again). Disable the update for the UI while running the script and activate it again, should fix it. Like this:

Ha my bad, we haven't updated the template in Designer in a while. We'll have to do the update on the SD side but there is no easy way to convert it from Painter though. Your workaround is your best bet for now, we'll try to update the shader in an upcoming release.
Unless anyone has any feedback I think I'm pretty much done with this one. In this final update I have updated all the lines to be scratchy and have some ruined edges. I have also updated the big screws.
