Im getting some pretty ugly normals out of the Substance baker. Ive started using substance primarily for baking since I love the high to lowpoly matching by subobject name, but the quality of the normals is pretty bad :( Is it possible to bake the normals in 16 bit? or is there a way to bake normals in 8 bit with…
I need some help asap. I'm applying a normal map to a model with max's standard shader. I apply the bump map as bump > normal > add bitmap and select my normal map. The normal map has no alpha channels. I turn on Hardware maps in viewport, and my entire model turns black. What is going on? It's never done this before.
Hi people, I'm having some issues with my normal map. My model shades correctly until I apply my normal map. The texture itself looks fine to me but I don't have alot of experience with baking. Some info on the model: * My high poly was basically the same as my low poly model but I used modo's rounded edge shader. * All…
In Maya LT 2018, I separated the chest/head portion of this character. I didn't notice until testing in Unity, but as you can see the vertex normals appear to have changed. The result is that you get a faint but noticeable seam at the border, and it is more pronounced under sharper lighting. The normal map texture still…
I've just come out of a Game Design course and feel hugely underqualified, and so I'm taking modelling into my own hands and seeing whether I can learn as I go. A few days with normal mapping would suggest "probably not". I've followed just about every normal mapping tutorial on the internet - it always works in those…
Hey guys, so here I was getting ready to start texturing my greatest masterpiece yet, and did a test run of normal mapping just to make sure this exact type of thing doesn't end up happening (ie an apparently unresolvable issue which persists throghout different combinations of baking/rendering software). Well, it ended up…
Hey guys, I'm sure this has been answered before (no luck in search though) but I have a question about normal map gradients. You see, in order to get a good bake from a hi to low poly object in maya, I need to soften the normals on my low poly. But for some reason when I bake from my hi poly, the soft edges from my low…
I'm currently experimenting with NPR shading in the style of Guilty Gear Xrd and I have a model I'm trying to adjust the vertex normals on to achieve a good cel-shaded lighting effect, but most software I have has very limited normal editing tools - i.e. 3DS Max's Edit Normals modifier is very basic. What I'd prefer is…
I've checked around for this, but surprisingly couldn't find anything. I found all of the usual things about transfer mapping normals from one model to another, but I'm wondering how/if I can save out an image of the base normals on my model, just from using soften/harden normals. I'd like to use these to tweak a few…
so recently ive been trying to make normal maps in zbrush but ive been having some trouble. ive got my base mesh ready and unwrapped in 3dsmax, i export it as .obj and i start sculpting it in zbrush, but when i go to make a normal map with zmapper the texture comes out in tiles. how can i get a normal map in zbrush to fit…
