Hi, I'm working on a project that would require a transparent background behind my main element, as it will be animated over several hundred of frames and placed on a different background later on. Manually cutting each frame in Photoshop doesn't seem very appealing to me! Is there any way of achieving this? I'm using 2017…
Welcome to Polycount! This is a sweet design, it's nice to see non-conventional mechanical designs like this. The biggest thing for me is how difficult it is to get a "read" on the shapes. I think this happens because the materials are all very similar across the whole asset, so it's difficult for the eye to parse what the…
Hi, I'm having trouble with 3DO's renderer. I set up a simple shot which just rotates a little around my object. When I went to render it, I tried saving it as avi and it did it's thing. When it was done, I went to open up the avi file but it's empty. It's just a black 0 second long avi file. While I could save as png,…

hey guys, As the title suggest - I'm looking to render a shadow without the plane. like a matte shadow in other 3d software I used the shadow catcher and tried all kind of passes in the render settings but none gave me the result I was looking for. it either gave me the object on a transparent background without any…
Hi guys, I was wondering if their is any other programs besides GrabViewport that allow you to render out your viewport as an animation? I'm looking for something that allows me to render out videos in something other then AVI so it doesn't eat up all of my memory and crash max. I find it odd that Max itself doesn't…
Hey guys, I wanted to show you what I have achieved for skin rendering. It's based in the research work of Jorge Jimenez and mates. At the same time he based his work on others and so on, hehe. http://www.youtube.com/v/1pfqCQQIbUM [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pfqCQQIbUM"]Unity - Screen Space Sub-Surface…
@Fabi_G, looking nice! The only issue I see with this method are little polygonal diamond shapes where the metal arcs are damaged: either it's the contrasting color in vertex color, or sharp edges, or both, but they look a bit too sharp. Especially compared to the similar shapes baked into the normal map. I realize these…
There might be an easier way, but the way I do it is by using the BPR function. If you do a BPR render (the little button on the upper right of the default layout, keyboard shortcut Shift+R), you can go into the Render -> BPR Renderpass menu and click on the "Mask" pass, allowing you to save that mask out for future use.…
Dear Polycounters, I've got another (what I'm sure will be a) fairly simple question for you. I am a complete n00b to Max 2012. After using Max 9 for years I am slowly learning all the shiny new features. The other day I was attempting to take some beauty renders of a finished client piece that I got back from the texture…
