I'm Canadian so I won't be involved as much in this thread as I'd like to be.

I don't align myself on either side, I pick my officials for local and federal government based on who seems best fit for the job. For local government lately I'm liking the republicans more, this state has been blue for a long time and has gotten a bit complacent and corrupt so it's a good time to switch things up. But for country I think the Democrats have stronger candidates, Sarah Palin is a joke, both in her home life and her very short political career. At this point of the election its very little about what plans they falsely promise and more about who has the better speeches and character, and Obama along with his very experienced running mate Joe Biden, seem like a much better team than McCain and Palin.
I'm penciling in Ron Paul.

In a lesser of two evils sort of decision making process, Obama has my vote. Also I find it kinda cute how instantly everyone says this thread is going no where but generally there has been nothing heated said from either side. I suspect it will be a self fulfilling prophecy though. I give the thread a page before it explodes.=)
But I am avoiding any serious discussion, I can't see it ending well.

Being outside the box looking in, I'm always curious to read what American's think of this sort of shit.
My opinion, as a Canadian, is Bush is a douche, McCain is far too old to have the same beliefs in what 'America should be' as the rest of the country, and Obama is a good looking dude who can hold up a speech but i Have no idea what his policies are.

I guess I'd consider myself Independent. I tend to lean towards Democrat most often, but to be honest, I think all of our politicians are crooked fucks and I wouldn't align myself with any of them
That being said, I'll probably vote for Obama. McCain would have had my vote in 2000 if Bush hadn't gotten the bid, but today, I can't tell what McCain stands for. From what I can tell, his policies are
1) I'm a POW
2) Obama isn't ready
3) Obama called my runningmate a pig
4) Off shore drilling

The issue isn't being against offshore drilling- it is against opening up new areas for it. We already have lots of offshore drilling and millions of unused acres. The debate is whether opening up new offshore areas will help. But the debate has been phrased in such a way as to make it seem as if it is 'drill or don't drill.' It isn't. Democrats aren't trying to get rid of offshore drilling, they are trying to make oil companies use what has already been allotted. Would opening up new areas do anything, I don't know, but that's what the debate really is about. Who I agree with I won't comment on (though I'm sure it can be inferred)- but it is important to make sure we at least understand what the issue is at hand.
Obama gets my vote but really, I don't expect much of anything to change...

And yeah, even though he's the lesser of 3+ evils, I would have voted for Ron Paul if he'd run as an independent or on the Lib ticket, rather than Rep.

I'd hope that at this point in the states history, more people than usual would be looking for
change as its seemed that during the last 8 years that people here can't afford for things
to stay as they have been.
That said, I'm enough of a fan of The Wire to believe change is only possible at about the

I find this a sad take on politics in our own country. That you as a Canadian are more interested in what people in the states will be voting.
Obviously the situation south of the Border has a huge impact here, and around the world. But common man, don't you care about the direction of your own country?
Especially since Harper has quite a parallel with the Bush admin. and the republican party in general. I think it was a bad time for them to call the election up here (with all the focus being south). But that's the perfect time for someone who will run this country into the ground to sneak through with a majority government.

I vote Democrat though. (Being a very liberal in very conservative hicktucKY, where the majority wil vote Republic cause Obama is black, it means my vote means JACK SHIT)
I like Obama this year. He's one of the more educated and hands down the BEST public speaker I've heard in a loooong time. I think he can at the very least help to restore a tiny portion of America's credibility with the rest of the world and help stymie the weakening economy. Also, he's the first guy in my 28 unpatriotic years that I can look at and have pride in as my president.
McCain, if this had been four to eight years ago, sure he would have made a pretty decent Republican president... but against Obama, nope. Sure I don't agree with him on some things but he would have been so much better than Bush.
