I don't align myself on either side, I pick my officials for local and federal government based on who seems best fit for the job. For local government lately I'm liking the republicans more, this state has been blue for a long time and has gotten a bit complacent and corrupt so it's a good time to switch things up. But for country I think the Democrats have stronger candidates, Sarah Palin is a joke, both in her home life and her very short political career. At this point of the election its very little about what plans they falsely promise and more about who has the better speeches and character, and Obama along with his very experienced running mate Joe Biden, seem like a much better team than McCain and Palin.
Wow, I can see the thunder and lightning being cast in this thread. Although I would assume that most people in this community would not want four more years of the Bush regime. We are all artists and usually lean towards the democratic side, in my opinion.
Obama FTW, Bush needs to leave and never, ever come back...
Yeah, he's gonna leave, and go to his mansion in Texas and bathe in sweet, sweet crude and towel himself off with $100's every night, and just laugh and laugh and laugh. Crime of the motherfucking century. Enjoy your Patriot Act, wiring tapping, and freedom tickling, America.
I think he's speaking to policy of a certain neckless bulldog and his pitbull with lip-stick vp candidate, Xenobond.
In a lesser of two evils sort of decision making process, Obama has my vote. Also I find it kinda cute how instantly everyone says this thread is going no where but generally there has been nothing heated said from either side. I suspect it will be a self fulfilling prophecy though. I give the thread a page before it explodes.=)
EDIT: Say what you want just keep it to your opinion and let others say there own. The second belittling enters this thread, you're gone
Being outside the box looking in, I'm always curious to read what American's think of this sort of shit.
My opinion, as a Canadian, is Bush is a douche, McCain is far too old to have the same beliefs in what 'America should be' as the rest of the country, and Obama is a good looking dude who can hold up a speech but i Have no idea what his policies are.
Stoofoo hit my opinion on the head when he said Obama is the lesser of two evils.
So what are we looking at? 4 more years of Bush or 4 years of fresh noobiness?
A little biased there Adam?
I guess I'd consider myself Independent. I tend to lean towards Democrat most often, but to be honest, I think all of our politicians are crooked fucks and I wouldn't align myself with any of them
That being said, I'll probably vote for Obama. McCain would have had my vote in 2000 if Bush hadn't gotten the bid, but today, I can't tell what McCain stands for. From what I can tell, his policies are
1) I'm a POW
2) Obama isn't ready
3) Obama called my runningmate a pig
4) Off shore drilling
I've been tired of this presidential race since January.
In regards to off shore drilling, I still don't understand how everyone is against offshore drilling still, Japan is already drilling a few miles off the coast in Florida in international waters, I don't see why we shouldn't be doing it other foreign nations are already doing it and it's already in our own back yard.

The issue isn't being against offshore drilling- it is against opening up new areas for it. We already have lots of offshore drilling and millions of unused acres. The debate is whether opening up new offshore areas will help. But the debate has been phrased in such a way as to make it seem as if it is 'drill or don't drill.' It isn't. Democrats aren't trying to get rid of offshore drilling, they are trying to make oil companies use what has already been allotted. Would opening up new areas do anything, I don't know, but that's what the debate really is about. Who I agree with I won't comment on (though I'm sure it can be inferred)- but it is important to make sure we at least understand what the issue is at hand.
Well, the republican party hasn't followed or adhered to the tenets of its own platform for decades. I guess you could call me a Libertarian. Strong personal liberties, strong states rights, minimal federal government scale and authority, non interventionist foreign policy.
And yeah, even though he's the lesser of 3+ evils, I would have voted for Ron Paul if he'd run as an independent or on the Lib ticket, rather than Rep.
Just as an aside, while the the Republican is a rich old man neocon warhawk completely out of touch with real people, Obama is just as dodgy due to his connection to our friend zbigniew brzezinski.
That said, I can't help thinking of the last two elections.
I remember Scott Ruggels once explaining that people vote Democrat if they want ( and can afford) change, Republican if they don't ( or can't afford the type of change the democrats push).
I'd hope that at this point in the states history, more people than usual would be looking for
change as its seemed that during the last 8 years that people here can't afford for things
to stay as they have been.
That said, I'm enough of a fan of The Wire to believe change is only possible at about the
same rate as tectonic plate movement across centuries
In regards to offshore drilling, I don't think its about new places to drill or destroying our environment or any of that crap. While I do particularly enjoy nature and all of its stuff, the problem is practicality. It will take close to a decade before this "new oil" becomes available for us to use, and if we are going to spend a decade in pursuit of more energy, shouldn' t it be renewable sources of energy that will solve our oil problem and not just continue its slow, inevitable decay and death? Obama all the way, John McCain/Sarah Palin will only quicken the demise of the USA.
Sentient: Its the best kept secret of the last decade worth of TV, its truth in a box, the end of
the 1st season was like an epiphany for me. 3rd season is my fave but its the most satisfying ending to a show at the end of the 5th ive ever seen.
I don't know if she does...but it wouldn't surprise me if Dinosaurs were here 4 thousand years ago. I'm pretty sure we still have a few around to this day.
Middle of the road, independent, whatever you want to call it. I share views on both sides. I'm still not 100% sure who I'm voting for just yet. The lesser of the two evils, when it comes down to it. I like some of what both are saying. So for me, it's a balance act all the way to the end.
I find this a sad take on politics in our own country. That you as a Canadian are more interested in what people in the states will be voting.
Obviously the situation south of the Border has a huge impact here, and around the world. But common man, don't you care about the direction of your own country?
Especially since Harper has quite a parallel with the Bush admin. and the republican party in general. I think it was a bad time for them to call the election up here (with all the focus being south). But that's the perfect time for someone who will run this country into the ground to sneak through with a majority government.
im just a brit, but im drawn towards obama. i don't trust bush or any of his cronies, despite our governments enfatuation with them. Hah, however its that exact same feeling that led us to blair, the feeling of being sick of tories. out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind, however I still think the tories would have made an even bigger mess than labour
I'm registered Independent since I did not know/care about the differences at the time. A student in high-school was getting students that were 18 to register for a class assignment. I still don't care much for the Liberal, Conservative and Everyone Else political system and how everyone just keeps polarizing more and more and more and being downright vicious about things.
I vote Democrat though. (Being a very liberal in very conservative hicktucKY, where the majority wil vote Republic cause Obama is black, it means my vote means JACK SHIT)
I like Obama this year. He's one of the more educated and hands down the BEST public speaker I've heard in a loooong time. I think he can at the very least help to restore a tiny portion of America's credibility with the rest of the world and help stymie the weakening economy. Also, he's the first guy in my 28 unpatriotic years that I can look at and have pride in as my president.
McCain, if this had been four to eight years ago, sure he would have made a pretty decent Republican president... but against Obama, nope. Sure I don't agree with him on some things but he would have been so much better than Bush.
If there are two kinds of people I would absolutely not trust to run a country, it's wealthy old people and sports moms. That alone would be enough to make me vote for Obama even if he wasn't so charismatic. But factoring in the actual political agendas/stances of this specific wealthy old person and sports mom, the opposing candidate could be Skelator and I'd still not vote for McCain.
Oh I forgot the bullshit they pulled in KY last election (as well as other states IIRC).
Putting Gay Marriage on the ballot.. OMG.. ALL of the bigots got out of their trailers for that one.
I was pissed... but I took solace in the fact I voted against Bush and for gay marriage in a *chruch. XD

Uhh.... he's already had his 2nd term, man.
