Came back, because I needed a good boost of good work in my system. I struggle to even call them sketches cause these all seem like finished pieces to me. haha.
My take on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I'm still trying to figure out a pose for him with this set up. Pretty much done on the blocking out stage and will be moving on to detailing next.
Finally finished this, got side tracked a lot during this piece and It got put on hold for a while. Still not quiet happy with some bits but time to move on.
Cheers!
This was a really fun piece to work on and learnt a lot. Still not quiet happy with how I sculpt faces but will definitely push it more on my next piece. The head was sculpted in zbrush, base armour in 3Ds max, photoshop/3Dcoat for textures and rendered in marmoset.
Lots of great work! As for your last update, the face is looking pretty solid, the helmet is alright, but the armor he is wearing isn't very convincing IMO. The materials aren't reading as the materials I think you mean them to be. The metal doesn't have much spec and the leather seems a bit off but I'm not sure why exactly. Maybe because when the light is hitting the material it is just hitting is very evenly? I would try and push your materials more to make them more convincing.
Are you doing a PBR workflow? Or specular? Or what?
Hi nickcomeau cheers for the feedback! very much agreed on your point, wasn't totally pleased with how the armor came out. Am currently trying to get a grip on PBR workflow. I'll give it one more pass tomorrow on the textures. Appreciate the crit very much, thanks buddy. Ill update here as soon as I can.
Long time no post, been quiet busy lately and currently just finished a freelance job...so I've only just started to get my rhythm back this week. Slowly chipping away on him and still blocking out some of the gear.
I recycled/adjusted the head and body, simple extracts for the gear and made some custom insert brushes for the patterns and stitches. CRITS MOST WELCOME (caps intended).
Just some minor update this week. Added some hair and played a bit more on refining the clothing, which is still looking way too clean for my liking. Once I've made everything I'll break the symmetry and push the details. CC most welcome.
Advert project, discontinued at the end but I got to work on this fella. I used 3Ds max, zbrush, 3D coat for the main mesh. Also used xnormal and photoshop for the texture maps and finally rendered in marmoset.
Medical project (Bone, muscles, ligaments and joints bio mechanics) am working on. The main aim is to produce a series of 3D models/images and animation to illustrate the bio mechanic functions for educational purposes.
Key Points:
-Leg anatomy: An introduction to the basic anatomy of the leg, this will include different layers which can be hidden in sections. Skin>fat>muscle/ligaments>bones. The leg will also be used as the main visual component for the project. It will be broken into different sections to cover individual lessons.
Bone Structure: The femoral head, cut through to demonstrate the difference in outer edge structure [solid] vs inner [spongy] structure. Mechanical testing, stress/strain and demontrate porosity.
-Bone ageing process: Simple slice/cross section to show the progress over time.
-Bone Healing process: Show the progress over time.
-Joint Characteristics: Develop a true representation of the knee. Peel away all the layers and explain liquid behaviour, general breakdown.
-Tendon: Illustrate/show tendon fibers stretching and relaxed
A small demo I did for a school, had 3 hours in total to play around in zbrush. I then spent some more time after work adding the arms and pushed some details. Sculpted in zbrush and finalized in photoshop.
Revived an old piece from the grave and many face palming occurred. It was mainly the rigging stage that made me bin this piece, I'd retop spheres all day, anytime and anywhere rather than skin one vert on this fat bastard again.

Cheers! will be back soon with some new pieces.
Yup, just used transpose master to pose this one
New piece I'm currently working on. Still tweaking the anatomy on this guy, sorry for butts.

Pushed it a bit more on this head, to a point where am happy to start the polypaint.
Calling it on the sculpting stage and moving on to texturing. I'm currently tidying the UV maps and getting it ready for baking.

New portrait am currently working on, roughly blocked out her pose to get the overall drapery early and still not quiet happy with the feels.
Fun portrait study.Sculpted/polypaint in zbrush, retop/texture in 3Dcoat and rendered in marmoset toolbag.
More anatomy practice...boop!
