Sadly, I don't have a mudbox or Zbrush type program, so no high-poly painting for me
welp, it definitely differs from the concept, but I'm at the lod1 tri limit, so I guess that's that. being one of the first models i've made, it got really messy in there. now to figure out how to texture things!
I went with a head/shoulder piece for Shadow Demon... I feel he is under-appreciated in so many ways!
Here's a quick throw of ideas around the fact that he was the leader of a cult... trying to figure out how to give his head a more 'royal' look without interfering with the particle area around his head...
I'm liking #1 better so far. Might take that sketch further tomorrow.
Finished the Warlock submission! We are in the middle of a sprint in my studio so there's no way I can learn to do and apply the particles in the time thats left, anyways.. here it is!
Looks excellent dan, how did you do the animated flame particles? Also an animated picture will show off those particles better in your steam workshop entry.
EDIT: Could someone volunteer to do a tutorial on fancy animated particles? There was lots of chat about it this month.
@Xajai: Interesting idea. Though it does end up looking flat in both cavities and textures. I am not sure how the lights emitted will read ingame for the eyes and mouth. Maybe more strength? Nice jaw rigging though.
Here is my entry for the competition which is an item I am working on based on a concept from Double Leaf. Currently early base mesh. I think I captured the main features of the weapon and will do some more minor tweaking then take it to Zbrush for refining features and detailing.
Alright, so I think I'm about done, and I think that I've made a neat item. It doesn't exactly stand out, but making it I wanted it to go well with the default items since there aren't many things for Shadow Demon yet.
I just need to go back over mask1 and mask2, shine some things up, and then my next update should be my workshop submission!!
gosh this was fun to learn about stuff, and I think I need to work on my texturing for the future, as it's turned out pretty dirty looking, but I don't quite know how to make it look nice! I'm going to see if messing with the masks will help make it look better.
Also, for some reason the portrait tab doesn't work after I import the item? Shadow Demon's model doesn't show up, but I can see my item, and in game it seems to be fine. anything I can do to fix this?
Double Leaf! I highly suggest you roughen up the blade edges. Too clean compared to everything else. Unless that is intentional for some reason. Love the sculpt on the rest of the blade.
I really like where this Terrorblade weapon is going, maybe you could try to accentuate the edges a bit more with pinch? that's just my opinion, either way looks badass
Okay I think I'm done with my textures, I think it looks better now. I haven't changed it at all from my last post, so please give me some feedback?
also, I somehow missed iko's post a page back, and if you're still working on it, I absolutely love the concepts! I like the armor of the second but the head-spikes of the first!
hey guys!
sorry for being missing these days, i got back home from the international and had a lot of things to do.
You guys did great this month, congrats!
if we cant decide in one day is fine, I can ask someone to help creating the post later, it is just that I am going to a heavy metal festival in Germany called Wacken and I will not be able to bring my computer with me
Sure but these are meant to be quick weapons. If he was swinging them slowly then the bulkiness works but he swings them super fast, which lends to them being thinner more agile weapons. He is an agility hero after all. Just my 2c anyway.
gotta tweak masks and color, and still lod_1 not done. but progress
Looks good Coyo.te, I'm not sure if there is enough time but I think a bit on detail on the mask would be a good thing. Not too much detail as that will make it too busy, but if you notice the rest of Doom's design he has lots of little demon symbols about his person. Maybe something similar to that in the scorching red colour would look awesome.

I think the bright gem looks great in game, I'm worried that it doesn't really fit with the rest of the colour scheme though. I think something more bright purple than bright pink would look great.
@ Tvidotto , I think Baddcog's insect comp is a good'un. (brood, nyx, weaver, sand)
Managed to finish the sculpt, polypaint, bakes, retopology, UVW and almost finished diffuse. Masks to go!
Might also look into particles as the default importer doesn't have one.
Thoughts so far?
How about some blue flame particles floating in the centre of the circular gaps? It will either look really cheesy or really cool. But it won't take long to try out.
@Coyo.te - I think if the helmet matched the red of the armor it would add alot to the piece. That way you could also add the damage and people would notice it.
@Vayne4800 - I agree with MDK the item looks good but would work better if thinner.
@Tvidotto - I like finnicks idea of a forest themed competition.

since it wasnt much of a hassle, i just tried it out. i see your point, stil i am not sure what to do with it now ^^
i adjusted masks now and all and now there is the detail map effect on some of the horn gaps and the scratch over the left eye.
earlier i planned to have like a warpaint like lower skull/jaw kinda thing painted on the mouth piece of the mask but that looked weird, might play around with it a bit stil and see if i can come up with something that works better. thx for suggestions

I have to go back over the textures and things again but it looks really cool to me right now!
this is so much fun, definitely going to make this a hobby

Yeah, that feeling when you get it working in-game.
Here's my submit for this month.
THE DEVASTATOR by danpaz3d
Keep it up everyone!

Changed the name for my item, previous was just a filler.

Workshop Hate Machine did something on it a little bit ago! have a looksies and see if it helps you!
Did my first in-game test,
looking ok, need to fix the rigging, alter a few things.
I'm also thinking about changing the colour of the cape, the purple just blends into the rest of SD's skin.
loving all the Shadow Demon love! I'm honestly just super excited that I know how to make items now!! I can't wait to make more
Ta Schnoodle, I'll have a look.
I've almost finished the corset, just need to get the masking done and the marketing pic. Looking forward to seeing it in game...
after some feedback, i'm updating the textures on my item, and would like to see what you guys think?

i kind of like the "bulkness". TB he is a big guy =]

Should have my entry ready by tonight.
Knights: sven, dragon, omni, legion, wraith king, chaos, abaddon (maybe mortred, silencer, chen...).
4 elements: air = windrunner, earth = e-spirit/tiny/shaker, water = morph/naga/slark, fire = lina/ember (maybe batrider/doom/clinkz).
Dunno, maybe some funny themes will be more interesting.
@Vayne4800 - I agree with MDK the item looks good but would work better if thinner.
@Tvidotto - I like finnicks idea of a forest themed competition.
@Tvidotto - I think knights - best idea!
@Vayne - i think your weapon is very thick. Make it a little more elegant
I think I didn't make myself clear.
The competition could be limited to a theme or a slot or something else, but not to a handful of heroes.
