Just found this http://p3d.in. It's super quick. The down sides are the limitations of the textures and shaders and it seems to funk with the smoothinggroups.
And, to my surprise, it integrates fully into, otherwise limited, tumblr. http://www.vnyhlen.se/ - check the second post. And yes, it fucks with the smoothing.

The few other sites alike are better overall since they support all browsers. Took him forever to get out of the Alpha/Beta too.
Edit: Found this site that's on the same lines with p3d, sketchfab.com and a :O model

I don't like the vec3obj. It's slow, compared to p3d, and you need java - me not like.

Assume you're either on a computer with integrated graphics or you're using IE or an old version of Firefox. Sucks that webgl doesnt work on integrated graphics
Plus wasn't there an issue with trying this a while(few years) back (Viewport?) with people being able to retrieve the model information, thus "stealing", the 3D objects?
I mean I am all for this type of stuff, would be excellent for portfolio's.
It's just people ruin things ya know..

Since we're making wishes, it would be awesome if I could export animation and have that play in the viewer. I think FBX supports vertex animation, so you could animate it as you please, and then just export an FBX with vertex information in each key (instead of having to deal with bones and whatnot).
Also, quick question, does this work with an object that has multiple materials?

for example in that p3d.in, open a page with a model (not the default one at p3d.in), go to the console (on chrome - f12 and then the second button from the left bottom, "show console"), and type render_geometry, you'll see an object called "e", open it and you can see categories for the model info, vertices, colors, etc
that website is a good example because it did a very lousy job making it difficult to get the data, in other websites it won't be as easy because they minifie the code and stick variables in closures, but it's still possible. when these things become more popular, scripts will definitely pop up for extracting the models to files
but with all that said..
the "someone might steal my work if it's out there for free" point is ages old and has been made in programming, music, television, etc, and now 3d models. it's very counter-intuitive and scary at first, but it may not be all that terrible having your work out there
1. odds are very good no one will ever use it
2. if a commercial company steals your stuff, you get to sue them and make much money
3. you could get very positive publicity for it
4. the skills you gain from making those models are yours, and they're what's going to get you hired

Had the same problem with the same message I just changed explorers, I was using opera got the error then went to Firefox and all seems fine.
The backgrounds to the app/3d model viewer/ need work or does the user choose the backgrounds themselves?

I find it pretty painless on my PC at work. Same goes for unity / unity-flash. Works great on regular PCs used for 3D. For complementing - not replacing - your folio it's pretty neat.
Lack of shaders annoys a bit - then again, you don't often have control over shaders either with many engines you'll be using at work. In unity you can work around this - but it's annoying for less technically inclined people. But if you can use those tools - why not?
Biggest downside - gotta make sure your model is really perfect and not just "perfect enough for the static 2D shot". No cheating with PS here. and you can zoom in. You're opening yourself up very wide for art nitpicking over details that may be overlooked otherwise.
Sure it won't work on iPhone, iPad, your intel GMA equipped netbook or on MSIE 6.0 but do people use those to review folios when making a hiring decision?
just needs a little bit more features, like alpha, lighting, different shading models.

It would be so good to get multi materials happening for environment objects.
Also if this starts to get heavily used, perhaps we can think of adding an embed code into the Polycount Forum. Works great when you embed it into your website and it makes the background transparent!

+1 on that. Nice little viewer tool. Hopefull they'll expand it's functionality.
Personally I'd prefer some sort of package that I can include on my personal site. That way if the main site goes down, that doesn't affect my portfolio. Also, it could open the door for shader customization.
Barring all the "don't worry, it just gets your work out there" answers; just humor me.
You can access the textures (chrome dev tools) though not the model since it'll probably be in JSON. Don;t think there's anyway to stop the textures from be accessible since they are downloaded off the server. Maybe some permission stuff though I'm not that knowledge in servers and databases

I think is the best way to show ur concepts and sculpts to others, and polypain suport like xnormal would be fine.

Right now the renderer is pretty unforgiving, when I stick my models up in there it makes sure all my fuckups are as plain as day to see.
@adam: I know vBulletin can do iframes though there is the possibility that there could be malicious pages embedded.
