[FIGHTER] Waku Waku 7 - Fernandez - jramauri

Well, my character of choice is the final boss of Neo Geo's Waku Waku 7 game. I like him because he is crazy, irreverent and very powerful. One of the most dificult end bosses ever, in my opinion. He's as tall as a skycraper, and uses electricity as his power.
I want to make him menacer than the original version. Let's see what happens.

There goes my early concept. I'm just figuring out what direction to take. I want him more cartoonish, funnier, crazier than the original. Crits and suggestions are welcome from all Polycounters.

Looking very good thus far. Love the attitude he gives off.
The final touch I'd like to add in my concept, is that Fernandez is a proud fighter and collects the heads of the guys defeated by him!!! He has an extensive gallery of fighter's heads. And he likes to show those they are most proud of.
So, he wears a necklace with heads of 3 masters: Akuma, from SF, the legendary Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris himself!
I added those heads, but they were made in a hurry, just because I was anxious to see if the idea would work. I'll make proper caricatures later, matching better the initial drawing style of Fernandez. Currently, they don't seem to belong the same universe of the main char. Crits and comments are welcome.
Let's hope you don't bring the wrath of the Chuck on yourself for the necklace.

This is totally apropriate, They are three emblematics fighters, but you can try the ViktorSan's idea
Of course, I don't know how it will work in side view or in 3d. Maybe it will be necessaire to make some adjustments, or even abandon the idea of necklace... But I hope it works, because I think it's the best way to carry his master's heads.

Ranvenslayer: Thank you, mate. But I think put clothes on this char will deviate too much from the original. Don't forget the original guy is just a ball with hands and feet. I don't want to overlook him.
ViktorSan: Yeah, I thought this at begining. The problem is that we don't have iconic game bosses, that sounds reconizable and funny to everyone who sees the concept. For example, if I put on his necklace Akuma(SSF2), Rugal(KOF) and let's say, Gill(SF3) not everybody will knows this characters. And worst, most people won't agree that they are super powerful.
But on the other hand, when you see Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, you think imediately that they are badass fighting masters. Even Akuma don't get this effect in everybody. So I'm thinking in replace his head on necklace for Steven Segal, that everybody knows that is a great fighter too. Thank you for comment, man.
I definitely gave up of Akuma's head.. I think is out of context. Steven Segal is a much better choice. So I asked to my girlfriend to make some quick caricatures to serve as reference to me. Her drawing style is more simply and effective than mine. And then she presented me these awesome sketches.
I made a test, and I believe that this drawing style will fit much better.
So, I'm going to rework my caricatures using hers like base. I hope nobody here claims this is against rules, as I'll not use her work on my concept, just as reference. And we use references from others all the time

Only thing I'd say is, if he's supposed to be skyscraper sized, aren't those heads a little large? If Bruce, Chuck, and Stevie were normally proportioned, he'd be only about five or six feet tall...

Hi Archaon, your post wasn't showing before. (New members of forums have to wait until a mod approve their posts). Glad you like it. I've already explained the choice of heads and I believe that with Segal, team of masters is now complete.
Today I'm going to work on caricatures, and later make some minor fixes on concept. When I have something worthy to post, I'll do it. Thanks for the support guys.
Here is some work on the caricatures. And a new test to see if they look good on the overall concept.
I think you've been able to draw out a ton of interesting silhouette details despite Fernandez's simplistic original design. He's still faithful to the character too.
Have you considered putting the heads of other waku characters around his neck? rather than martial arts legends? this way the character still feels like he is part of the orignal waku world. anyway, just a thought. nice caricature skills.
And this leads to the other question. I could have used Waku Waku 7 chars on his necklace. But the game is very little known. Almost nobody know the chars. And even worst, on this game, all chars have more or less the same power. No powerful fighters. If I would doing a satire with SF, I could use the emblematic chars, like Akuma and Bison. But here, I'd prefer to go to something more universsal and absurd. Because this absurd helps the concept to be more funny.. At least in my opinion. :P
