Hi guys. Just thought I'd share some music with you that I love working to. I can't seem work without it and these 2 songs have kept me going lately...help to get over the christmas comedown too.

Other than that, I usually find lounge/ambient electronica is amazing for if I'm painting/sketching, and if I'm pushed for time, or rushing to get a project done, some metal/hardcore usually kicks my ass into gear.
Sometimes i just play random. But mostly video game music and silent hill

Edit: i also listen to an online radio station a lot. It plays alot of techno music and just happens to be owned/ DJ'ed by my former teacher/mentor.

Seriously though I mostly listen to podcasts while working. Also thanks to Stoofoo I now associate most fast paced indie rock/electric songs with sculpting in Zbrush.

All I ever listen to in this world is game music or anime. Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mass Effect, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Trigger Resurrection, Devil May Cry 3, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid 1, KOTOR 1 and 2, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, No More Heroes, Half Life 1 / 2, Final Fantasy 7,8,9 and finally Zone of the Enders 1 / 2.
Why do I listen to game music only? Cause my understanding of music and philosophy is this, if I have an immersive experience with it then it's good music. When I listen to these songs my mind drifts and I see another world far more interesting than the one I'm living in. It's an odd feeling and I see lots of other people who experience the same thing especially when listening to old songs like Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong 1.
I sometimes debate whether I'd ever enjoy games if they didn't have the music that made them what they were.

For the most part I agree with Richard Williams & Milt Kahl especially for what they did, 2D animation. The brain power it takes to do their job to the level that they did, is just amazing. It's something that even completely competent artists that are fully focused can't pull off. Kahl once said he didn't have any interest in drawing unless it was moving, it was always about the motion. How many of us would be happy just to be able to draw one frame at his level?
Unless you're doing something that you have down so well that it can't be improved or something that runs on so little brain power it won't matter, solitude can be a powerful tool. But like all skills it has to be honed and not ignored.
I have some really nice noise canceling headphones when I really need to dive into things I put em on with nothing playing. In addition to not being sucked into casual conversations, it also acts like a urban duck blind, unless I stand up and start shooting, people tend to keep flying right on by.

I think that a lot of people have trouble sitting still in a quite room, they're uncomfortable with silence"gotta do something" "gotta listen or watch something" twitch twitch... its almost as if they're scared of their own thoughts or that "nothing" would drive them insane? Seems like they always want to get away from themselves instead of embracing the silence, tapping into it and using it. Those same people have epiphanies when they're stuck in the can, on a train or in a cab or trying to fall asleep. It's gotten harder to get stuck in those moments with the raise of hand-held media but I think its important to use the solitude as a secret weapon. Now just imagine what you're brain would cook up if it wasn't busy dropping a deuce and had more time?
A little deprivation can unlock some very awesome, creative things. Some of the most creative people in the world prefer to work in solitude. Authors have writers shacks, artists lock themselves in their studios for days bla bla bla.
I'm not saying everyone needs to unplug I sure as hell don't. But I don't think we should be so quick to dismiss solitude, focus and clarity.

I love my electronic music I its usually all I listen too at work besides the odd piece of game music.
Some of my faves from such genres like: Trance, Hard trance, Hard Style, Hard Core, epic step (dubstep), DnB and experimental Russian DnB. Sometimes I dabble in Gabba but only when it doesn't sound like white noise
