[WIP] T-Recks

Hello there everyone. I'm going to be constructing the main dinosaur for my game project called Wreckage. Right now I am working on the base mesh to later take into Zbrush and give him the final touches. The following pictures are of the base mesh, the concept, and a quick zbrush sculpt.

That looks pretty cool, I did a T-Rex , several months ago when I first started learning, still have it in my portfolio if you want to take a look. Not as spiky and awesome-looking as yours but my highpoly looks pretty decent. I've grown leaps since then. Oh well, keep going!

might be just how i see it, but it looks like the neck on the sculpt above seems to wide horizontally. Whereas in the ref picture, the neck only seems thick due to that thin skin dangling in the front. other than that, i'm really digging the head in general

Looking good. Faithful to the concept art, I like the smaller than normal head and the beefier than normal body, I'm not so sure about the upper arm anatomy so I would be tempted to depart from the concept there, but it depends on how the model looks on its own apart from the concept, it might hold up ok?

Don't forget to put the gap between the thigh and the stomach(Check the ref images you posted, the one from behind). From what I see on your recent screenshots it looks like it's been combined with the mesh. The reason I'm telling you this is because you'll probably get skinning problems later when animating it which will cause nasty texture stretchings.

Good progress, keep it up!

I'm not sure I would float the spikes, on something as organic and bendable as the neck it could be a pain to keep them from poking out when its rigged.

Couldn't you parent the spikes to the main body so it would flow with it for animation purposes?

You can and they would, but the problem is that as the surface deforms where they appear to connect isn't going to always match.

But wont that lead to a lot more edge loops all over the place? Not really, if you control where the edges go and keep them contained. Kind of loop them back around and tessellate a few quads.

As for the eyes, I wouldn't include them in the same mesh as the body, you want those to be able to slip and slide around under the eyelids.

Here's another update. This will probably be the last update for a while. My next one will hopefully have the main parts of the head done along with some more body shots. So be patient guys.

Like I said this is my first real serious sculpt with Zbrush and I want to take my time with it.

Spend more time on the muscles before moving on to detailing, you want the t-rex to have those really strong legs. Nice work so far!

Speaking of the jaw though, it seems a bit wide. A classic tyrannosaur jaw is a lot smaller and tapers toward the tip of the head.

Thanks for the great complement and as for the lower jaw being too wide it is suppose to be like this according to the concept. This is not however your everyday T-Rex either. Here is a close up of the head.
