Nice work Fletch, big fan of your stuff. The symmetrical face idea you had is my favorite, lots of style in that piece. Also you would have greater texture resolution with it than the others, so that's a plus.
Thanks, yeah, three sided could look quite cool. I'm also slightly concerned that it looks more ornamental than a purpose built weapon, which I can't stop thinking about now.. Will do some more to it later.
maybe if you rotated the top skulls a tiny bit so the beaks were at a more aggressive angle it would look more menacing than ornamental?
Yay for crow temple! I love the crow temple theme, and yeah, sadly there aren't too many of them out there. This is awesome! Your design is very solid. I'd swing that hammer around like nobody's business! One thing though, and maybe this is just something that's solved once it gets into 3d. But at first read, it appeared as an axe rather than a hammer. I think it's because the bottom tips of the wings give it a sharper silhouette. Again, it could be something that's easily solved when you're able to view the thickness in 3d. I love this design though, very bold features. This thing will pop in 3d, can't wait! Well done!
Fletch you gotta finish this man! I feel your design looks excellent already, the only thing I can't read very well is how the depth works on the top part. Just do a blockout and start modeling already
Thanks guys, yeah I agree about the top not reading well, I'll be sorting that out later today and cleaning up a lot in general and creating a quick blockout.
Wow man, this design is super strong. So many subtleties using the crow theme, I love it. I'm sure once you get your blockout in 3D it'll sort itself out. Now hurry and get modeling before it's too late!
almsot there, I have yet to really do something with the hilt and clean up the area around the skull.
Also not very happy with the main crow head in the middle but this is something I'll sort out in the blockout. will start the blockout tomorrow after finishing this.
I'm liking all of the elements you have going on so far, but I feel like you can push your design a bit further to unify the weapon as a whole. Particularly in the way you have done the metal work on the bottom versus the metal designs on top.
Try bringing some of your design hits from the top towards the bottom part of your weapon. Specifically the blue metal trims and possibly the bolts.
Hope this helps and looking forward to seeing how this comes out in 3d.
"Also not very happy with the main crow head in the middle"
Really? Because it looks pretty baddass from where I'm sitting. As long as the middle crow stays within the space created by the extruded hammer heads it will retain all the strength you have in your concept.
Really nice concept, however it comes off more as an axe than a hammer I think. Maybe it would work as a 3d model, but from the side view my first thought was axe.

I actually think that if the two heads we can see from a side profile were made to look like detailed blades this could be one mean ass axe, although I think it's going to be a beautiful hammer.
Yeah, I agree. I mentioned in the previous post that I had yet to really do something with the bottom. In this update I still kept it fairly simple though.

This should read better as a hammer when its in 3d.
Working on the blockout now, will post an update soon.
EDIT:
oh, and yeah the head in the middle will go through some iteration, I want it to stand out so it needs to be a bit brighter, but making it a skull makes it look like a vulture..
I will figure something out in the model.
edit 2:
can a mod please rename my thread so it says Hammer instead of Multi please?
Oh nice, those crow feathers are a sweet addition Though I'm missing the bird heads on the hammer heads. What about reversing the claw foot element under the bird for the pommel?
i was thinking the same thing as stinkhorse, but then i saw how many "heads" you added around the main bird head. This has evolved so well! keep going!
Looks great, however...I can't see the side profile, so I can't tell for sure. But it looks like the flat hammer ends are a bit thin. Widening those would make it look more hammer like.
If you recall the hammer death is using in the screen shots, although a different style, is very big and wide. Larger area to smash with.
Yeah its one of my major concerns too, the time I had this evening was mostly spent on that, Still might need to push it further though. Thanks for the crit
Still have to push the larger shapes, I know that the colour values and gradients I planned will help a lot but hopefully I can get the high poly to read better at the appropriate distance.
Didn't really get much done this evening, at least, as much as I hoped.
Still unhappy with the head > shoulder/wing support bit, but I'll fiddle with it tomorrow.
Wow, this looks amazing. I agree with what Clyptic said and I think in this latest image it's working better. However, I think it's silhouette still looks like a double bladed axe. Hammers tend to have one smashing end. Have you though about making it asymmetrical, with an obvious smashing side?
This is awesome! Although I feel like to could use something a little more to help it sing as a hammer. Your style really shines through on this and I cant wait to see you push this further, also I cant wait to see this textured.
As always nearly flawless work, I might shorten the counter weight at the bottom just a tad though, gives the appearance of more hand space. Keep up the killer work!

w.i.p
its 5am...yey for self control.
Well it appears this is going somewhere, although there is much to change. Ya don't see many crow temple Hammers.
Reads as an axe to me atm tho, maybe because of the curved outer edges?
looking forward to the block out, hopefully fixes the axe feel in 3d

This is my fav so far out of the bunch

I LOVE the crow in the center.

Never really intended to do multiple btw, heh.
Super early progress on model, have fiddled with the hammers a bit to show a head again.
Ignore the small details for now, they were just a quick layer so I could be happy with where I left off tonight.. (that and the purple tint)
Ignore the top of the head and the odd connection where the 'support' for the wings is attached, Have yet to really do anything with that area.
It doesn't read too well at the moment but I will be fixing that with some of the other elements..
One thing I want to do is emphasize the fact that it's a hammer even more, perhaps add a more cylindrical shape to the foreheads..
got some other ideas that deviate slightly from the concept too but I'll get to that later
Anyway time for some damn sleep.
Thanks for the feedback guys, Really hoping I can finish this on time, and not fuck up my sleep schedule even further...heh.
